I like Capture One Pro 11 very much, but it's not the answer to the OP's question.

It is very much the answer to Camera Raw Processing! You also own it and don't have to rent it.

I am told it does a great job - better than LR - on removing perspective distortion as buildings that seem to lean away from you. True?

That's correct.

I use the latest versions of Photoshop and Lightroom CC and I don't rent either one.

You don't "own" any commercial software. You only purchase a limited use license for it. The same is true for DXO Photolab Elite. I have a license for both. For some things Capture One gives better results, for other things PhotoLab Elite has the edge.

I can assure everyone here this about software, if you want very slow and unreliable, constant crashes and pretty much the same feel and aroma of the classic performance of a 56K dial-up modem because your a nostalgia freak?

Exactly. No one actually owns or rents software. There are just different forms of payment. For those who prefer Adobe software and always want the latest updates and features, $10 per month is an amazing bargain.

Your point is unclear.

I use it in most of my images. When deciding to buy a lens I first check to see if DxO supports it. I have a lot of lenses and DxO supports most of them. Even the lack of a support module for a very good lens will not stop prevent me from making a trip into DxO to reduce the noise, match the color, for my camera sensor, smart lighting, perspective and clear view. I then export the image as a DNG raw file back into LightRoom. I typically then make a trip into PhotoShop and export that back into LightRoom as a TIFF file. Memory is cheap.

LR, PS, and DxO all have their strengths. The good news is that they all interface and work well together. It keeps getting better all the time.

I shoot only in RAW format and process all my pictures using DxO. Just make sure to purchase the Elite version - a one time payment, no renting fee that you have to pay over and again.

The noise reduction is outstanding - very effective, customized for your specific camera, and more or less automatized (but you retain complete control over it). As far as I am concerned, the program is 100% reliable and never crashes. It is a bit slow at times, but you can save a bunch of pictures, which takes a bit of time, while at the same time work on another set of pictures, i.e., you don't have to wait for the saving process to complete to move on.

Highly recommended.

Ironic that this topic arose today. I have been using Define2 as well as LR for noise reduction. The results have been ok, as long as my ISO wasn’t thru the roof. With my camera, 1600 seems to be the redline, as far as what I can tolerate, in less than ideal lighting conditions, while shooting birds. Last week, I took a properly exposed, but high noise image and ran it through both of the above as well as DXO. I have spent most of the weekend, thus far, going back over high ISO images identified by the LR database and have been shocked at how well DXO performs. With my limited experience base, I declare this program amazing! I do not consider it a substitute for LR nor for PS. As someone here said, it is just another tool in my box and I am happy to have it!

I have been using the elite version since 2012 and bought the yearly updates. I do not use other software anymore. I like the automatic corrections when loading raw files. The Prime denoising feature is probably the best on the market and the newly added U-point feature allows local corrections. The smart lighting is also a great feature for high contrast photos.
