Love your sassy salvia, very eye-catching composition.
Thank you, Linda. I have a lot of different salvias and they can be difficult to photograph. This one is a small bush and the flowers are quite small but very bright and pretty.
Thank you, Jack! These needed to be fairly close as the foliage on the plants shows the ravages of summer. The exception is second one. It must really be a weed because it is vigorous year round!
Yes, the first one is a Salvia (Family: Lamiaceae),
The second image there also of the Family Lamiaceae (Mint) but a different Genus and species.
All rather lovely, the four there, especially the first two. It is interesting how my seasons in (Southern) California with its Mediterranean Climate was rainy mild Winters yet long dry hot Summers. We have a lot of dead or dry plants and flowers during the Summer and Fall.
Yes, "If your pictures are not good enough you were not close enough."
Yes, the first one is a i Salvia /i (Family: i... (show quote)
I just remembered the name of the second plant - Ruellia. I believe this cultivar is Ragin' Cajun Ruellia.
I'm glad you enjoyed these. When we pay close attention to nature it is very revealing. If you don't garden, you may not realize the impact of the changing seasons. If you don't watch and study wildlife, you miss many of the most interesting behaviors. I think photography makes us all better observers!
I'm not so much a gardener but I TRULY enjoy flowers, plants in general and animals. My degree is in Biology and as you can see my screen name is Lamiaceae (Mint Family; includes Mint, Sage, and many other food spices)! As photo subjects I'm partial to flowers and sea shells. Thanks for the reply.
Hi Carol, I look at a many wonderful photographs, and I always look forward to seeing your beautiful exposures. They are always great subjects, but sharpness, composition and exposure are very nice. Great work. Gary
