With the right printer, paper and ink, several hundred years. You are obviously oblivious to today's printer technology.

Yes, I know there are archival inks available but most folks don't use them. AND, How many years have passed to prove they will last as claimed?

People who want archival quality do. As for how long, have you ever heard of simulation testing? It's when you test something under simulated conditions. You simulate time and light by increasing the light sources and the amount of light. The greater the amount of light over normal ambient light, the more time simulated. If you increase the amount of light in the test to match the amount of light exposure for, let's say, a months worth of light in one hour, you can simulate an entire year in twelve hours.

I haven't taken wedding pictures in many years but I was surprised when I set down and started thinking about how many I have done. Wedding are not my thing but I sat down and tried to make a list of weddings that I photographed over the years and I came up with 18 that I could remember and with my memory I am sure I have forgotten some. I was surprised at the amount I had taken.

Yes, twice. For family and a friend.
No charge, as a gift.
Both were very appreciative of the gift and liked the photos.
But would I do it for pay, no way leave that to the professionals.
The two I did were a couple of poor young people with no parental financial support etc. and had minimal weddings in a free venue and snacks for food. They would have really had no photos without the help and it was a lot of fun and we all enjoyed the informal atmosphere.

yes on average I shot 2 sometimes 3 weddings a weekend. The rest of the week was spent processing and putting the proofs in a book. I had a sales girl who took the reorders and booked the weddings. I hate to say this I was the first photographer to go digital in my area but I think digital killed the business. I shot film for years when you had to make every shot count and when digital became popular people expected 800 to 1000 proofs and drove prices down to the point it wasn't worth doing anymore.

That plus today just about anyone with a D3400 and a couple decent zoom lenses and enough batteries and memory cards can shoot enough photos to put together a half decent wedding album. Just about anyone can be a darn professional photographer these days, they just don't know that they really aren't.

yes when I went digital I invested $14,000 in 2 camera bodies and lens back in 2ooo. When cameras became cheaper and these guys would go out with one camera it was hard to compete. People today want quantity not quality. that's what I mean by digital killed the business. Photographers today just turn on the continuous and no thought to posing, shoot a couple thousand pics just to deliver 400-500 shots. As I said with film you had to make every shot count and my weddings told a love story not a bunch of candid's that no one wanted. I'm retired now. Got out when weddings were fun to shoot not spray and pray. I took pride in my work.

I have done three weddings. One was when I was asked by our parish to shot the wedding of a couple that didn't have many resources. This was back in the film days and I shot several roles of film of a small wedding party and give the couple the 4" x 6". They were very appreciative. The other two weddings were for my youngest brother wedding and one of my nieces wedding. In both cases, we gave the images to the newly weds as a wedding gift. They were very appreciative. We did some pre-planning and had a list of groups to make sure we shot and that really helped getting all the shots, etc. It helps tremendously to have an assistant or two to get folks lined up for the next grouping.

hj I'm thinking you are wrong. What do you think the labs. are using? Printed on good quality (professional level) paper with pigment ink they'll outlast the bride & groom. My wife was a wedding photographer for years. We made our own prints. She retired as she didn't like the responsibility.

At the weddings that you photographed in years past, were you a guest taking photos or were you The Photographer shooting the wedding and providing the prints?

Are you thinking of an All in One printer or the Pro printers that many photographers now use, Lastly any print if not taken care of properly will fade in time , Keep framed prints out of direct sunlight and they will last for many years with no problem, also the type of paper and ink used is important.

My wife and I shot weddings for about 15 year, a couple of times, 3 in a day. We both would shoot during the ceremony, if allowed. I would be in the back, hopefully in a balcony, taking available light photos of the ceremony. She would be stationed to get photos coming down the asile and after the ceremony. For the posed group shots she would get the people in position, straighten dresses and tuxes and I would take the shot. This way the photos moved along quickly. Then we would both shoot at the reception. This worked well. But after a bit it got too much for us and with digital cameras becoming popular we gave it up. People didn’t want to pay our prices, instead they would get family members or friends to shoot for free. We both had full time jobs, her in retail and I as the photographer at a university.
We too could write a book and not mention photography.

Did I read your post correctly, Three weddings in a day? The only way I can see this done is that you only photographed the ceremony.

You are right on with that. I was a wedding photographer for over 25 years and shot an average of 30 to 35 weddings a year and I too have seen just about everything. Looking back it is amazing everything that happened.
