The message I got from Google was:
"Thanks for sharing. Your new photo is a great addition to Google Maps. Millions of people rely on contributions like yours to decide where to go."
The gps coordinates of the photo were listed beside it.
I assume that anyone using Google maps will see my photo when they mouse over the gps coordinates.

I won an amateur competition with the Londonderry Grange photo, here. The contest was run by NH.com, a commercial site promoting tourism in New Hampshire. I had to sign a release allowing them to use the photo for related purposes and I've since seen in on other web sites including the NH Dept of Resources & Economic Development. I'm just an "enthusiast" so I don't really care if it appears elsewhere without my receiving credit or compensation and I wonder if this isn't a similar situation with your photos?.

Those competitions give them free pictures. They run them to get free pictures. Once I realized it I stopped entering and winning.

This is very strange. I got an email from Google thanking me for posting two pictures. These two were taken at a car show about an hour south of me, one I did not attend. They were posted on 8/31. Any idea what's going on?

They are catching up with all your aliases! If they ask to me you for the check, it's the DEF or the INS.

Yes, this is Google doing this...I've seen this too. No privacy with the all seeing eye of Google. Don't upload any sensitive photos to Google. In your case someone may be using your account, especially if you don't recognize going to the event?

Change password and enable two factor sign on (with Google authenticator or using a text to your mobile.) immediately. Check other aspects of your profile such as phone contact and alternate emails.

I choose not to use gmail for that very reason, and generally avoid Google products whenever possible. Google is in the habit of being very intrusive in users' personal lives.

Rook, Thanks fpr the post; I have also noticed stuff that google has let slide through what used to be a reasonably good firewall and wondered "where did that come from?", including something called 'softgateon" that wants to install it on the computer as a PDF reader and has already blocked my Adobe reader. I intend to delete 'softgateon' once I get a chance to see if the Adobe still works; I'm still using Win & PRO.

Have you found a reasonable alternate to Gmail? I hate the thought of switching as I've been using it for 20+ years, and the number of contacts I have must be humongous.

Agree.
Not only the Mighty G, but Adobe's products as well. At least their "Acrobat Reader" always
triggered my antivirus software at install...

I'm curious, did you talk about the show to anyone when you had your cell phone with you or if you have an personal assistant. Did you talk to anyone about the show?

I have never received any emails however, I have noticed that lately when my wife and I go somewhere in the car. Within a day or two I get ads pertaining to things we talked about while we were driving. I checked and neither she nor I searched on our phones or the net for any of the items we talked about in the car. This has been happening much more lately.

The next time you go somewhere leave your cell phone at home. Make sure any passengers let theirs at home too.
Then go have fun and see if you get any odd gmail afterwards.

Agree with JimB3, I stopped using google as a search engine years ago due to them tracking you. Sure did not help when they said they were going to not help our military in artificial intelligence. "Duckduckgo" is my go to search engine. I recommend everyone use them.
