I took this with my Nikon D5300 and a 24mm fixed f1.8 Nicor lens. I am almost embarrassed to post this after seeing the Milky way photos taken by the gentleman with the astro enhanced camera. I am very low budget but even the crop frames will take good night photos. I am in the process of saving enough money to buy the D850. I will return!

Great shot , be proud, looks like you got the eye.

Nice shot! The only thing I would be careful of is exceeding 20 seconds so the stars don's streak. Looks like this may have been 25-30 seconds. I love doing this type of photography.

Superb shot. Nothing to be embarrassed about. Clearly you really don't need the D850.

I never go beyond 20 seconds and over 6400 ISO this picture was taken at 20 seconds I am well aware that the Stars start the trail beyond that and that's a stretch a 20 seconds

This is not a stacked photo it is all one shot it was a 20 second exposure at 6400 ISO taken with a D 5300 Nikon camera with a Nicor 24 mm prime lens F 1.8 for 20 seconds

Wow !!! Great shot. It shows you know your camera and you know your photography. The 850 is a great camera. But I think you can do a great job with any of the cameras you know you stuff. Are you going to blow the picture up? I am sure you can get a huge enlargement with the 24 mp of the 5300. Great capture.
