Gorgeous!!! I was just out trying to get some photos of a Monarch, and it's not easy. I have a 105mm Nikkor macro I just got, so I'm cropping way down to see if I have anything decent. I bet I took 20 or more photos, and so far I like ONE!
Good luck with your photos...
I have the 105 also...
My butterfly photos posted here were taken with my 55-200 mm lens tho....the butters were very active the day I was shooting so the longer lens worked out better for me
Tom your work is really improving. Congratulations, my pic is #7

Thanks, Tom
I am going with #5 but all are good
All are good, I narrowed it to 5 or 9.
No 4 for me because some of the flower and leaves are in focus the butterfly is on making it look like the butterfly wasn't added later

I agree. But it needs cropping.

Number 8 I kind of like the way the butterfly looks like he is taking off.
All are beautiful, Tom and I agonize about this type of choice just about every time I consider posting on the hogg and many times can't decide and never follow through with posting. By the subject being butterflies, I suppose that I would choose a cropped version of number seven but of course, it all depends on the judges' opinions. I enjoy a close-up image of the subject being featured but also like to view it as part of the overall image as it would normally be seen in its natural environment---for example, somewhat more emphasis being put on some beautiful flowers that it was nectaring at!
