I'd hang close so I could hear for the announcement to board my train. The estimate may be 3 hours but it can always be shorter. I'd hate to miss my train. If my luggage was checked I'd wonder around the station. If my luggage was not checked I'd find a comfortable place to chill. At least I assume it's at the station since you said all trains.

My first instinct would be for a nap, now that I'm 74 and naps come more naturally. But, using the extreme example of the 911 attack several friends drove their rental cars home to San Francisco from the East Coast. My wife was in San Jose and drove her rental up to our home near Lake Tahoe.

The best story was the guy who was contemplating a new truck, anyway, and used the Post 911 "Ground Stop" as an excuse to buy a new Ford F150 in Salt Lake and drive it back to Sacramento.

Oh, I'll take a beer with thet Bratwurst with spicy mustard, THEN, I'll take my nap.

Really depends on where I am, what camera and film I had handy. Most likely shoot candids of my fellow travelers if stuck on the train. This gets conversations started.

Look for photo opportunities for three hours.

You have a depot begging to be photographed, as well as your fellow passengers.... Maybe wander around the area a bit, keeping your safety in mind....Many opportunities available....Go find them. You are a photographer.

Yes, taking pictures of irate passengers could provoke some good fights.

That is the only definite answer.

Only if there are no additional delays

The replies so far are a fascinating variety of interpretations of the question, as well as clever humor from someone I thought of as a G.O.M. Before this dies out, I suspect a psychologist will have enough data to publish a paper!

1. If I'm hungry, find food.
2. If I'm not hungry, take a nap.
3. If I was on the train at the time of the delay and not allowed off, and am neither hungry nor sleepy, I'd read the book I brought with me (my mama taught me to always be prepared!).
3. If I'm allowed off (or maybe we never boarded?) and neither hungry nor sleepy, I would wander around to stretch my legs, strolling with camera in hand...just in case there's something that catches my eye to photograph. I would not leave the station because I'd be too worried about something happening that might prevent my returning in time. And besides that, what if it turned out to be only a two-hour delay and they decided to leave without me? Or what if they held the train for me and then all the other travelers hated me for it? Nope, just too much stress with that scenario!!

I would take a buss. But than again I might have to sit next to some sweaty fat lady. Maybe I should just catch the next train.

Use her as a pillow.

Twenty five years ago when I was still young, stupid and still in shape, while on a long delay at the Atlanta air port a couple of men stood at the boarding station arguing with the flight personnel. The three were getting quite out of hand and belligerent and threatening. After a while I walked up to their leader and simple informed them they needed to sit down they were scaring the kids that were patiently waiting. I wasn't nice about it. They must have thought I was some sort of enforcement person because I completely defused the situation. My wife told me I shouldn't have done it because I could have been arrested for joining the problem. Much later when we boarded we were not allowed to board and had to wait for everyone else to board. I thought we would not be allowed to continue on. The two airline boarding personal told us they would like to upgrade us for free to 1st class for the rest of the trip to Puerto Rico.

I would grab my camera taking pics, lose track of time, miss train, repeat as necessary. There is a chance I could die there.

If I'm on a major trip, especially international, I always keep a journal. I would use the time, thankfully, to catch up. It takes at least two hours/day so it's easy to get behind.
