I head for Iceland in about a month. I am looking for suggestions regarding things I should bring, other than camera equipment.

On the YouTubes, look at Thomas Heaton's and Matt Granger's videos regarding Iceland. Be prepared for major weather changes on the hour.

Credit card with chip and pin. Make sure you have a multi-thousand dollar credit limit.

I was there last week. I did not need any cash the entire time I was there, they take credit and debit cards everywhere. Food and fuel are very expensive, about 3x what it costs in the USA. Bring layers of clothes and a rain parka. I would use a lens filter when shooting around any geysers or hot pools that vent gases to protect your lens.

I am leaving today from Iceland and had a great time. Very lucky with weather and didn't have any rain in the South along the coast to the Iceberg lagoon from 9 to 14 August. And then on 15th went to Greenland on a sail ship with 11 other photographers, that weather was fantastic as well, would have liked a few clouds! I did find that most photos are taken from getting out of car so no big need for tripod, and if you take one make it small and light for night time or long exposures. I used mostly my Nikon D850 and D5 with 24-70, 70-200 and some use of my 16-35 and 300mm PF lens. I did see polar bears, musk ox and thousands of icebergs. Fantastic trip and now I have to process 4000 photos. I did use my Samsung S9+ a ton and took 400 photos. Great for Panos!!

Oh for clothes I did over pack. Never used my long johns, hiking pants work better than jeans and I had 3 sweaters with long sleeve under armor, always a knit hat and a 2 in 1 jacket, mostly used the insulated under coat and some times added the rain coat outer layer for more warmth. Fingerless gloves are nice. I'd recommend low top hiking shoes and I did wear Merel saddles and running shoes. Warm socks are a must. And no place to wash. Food and fuel is expensive. Gene

On Youtube DO NOT miss Jeannie With a View (many helpful videos for planning a trip, where to go, car rentals, food, etc.) and Mads Peter Iversen has the most extensive collection of videos for photographers that I have found.

Concerning your comment about needing no tripod or a light weight tripod, that depends on what the OP is planning to shoot. If he wants aurora shots: tripod. If he wants panos: tripod. If he wants slow waterfall shots: tripod. If the wind blows like it did the times I've been there (often 60+ mph, up to 100 mph): tripod.

The next time I go the thing I'll add to my packing list is my drone.
