We were there in mid September last year. Saw an amazing Aurora Borealis display. Cold out, but worth every moment

I head for Iceland in about a month. I am looking for suggestions regarding things I should bring, other than camera equipment.

Bring warm clothes and waterproof jacket. I used Vello plastic rain hoods for my camera . I took most of my pictures with a Nikon 18-300 lens on my D7200. My wife carried a small Sony HX-80 which I kept in my pocket when we went to dinner or shows on the ship. Cargo pockets help. We wore jeans most of the time - too cold for shorts. Trail running or hiking shoes are a must for shore excursions. We took about 4,000 photos despite the bad weather. There are great photo ops in Akureryi which has the best weather. If you have time a one day tour of the Southland is well worthwhile. We used www.getyourguide.com/Reykjavik/Tours. Have a great time.

quick note, believe it or not, the mosquitoes in Iceland are horrendous.Worst in the world. Be prepared.

Disagree about mosquitoes. I fished three different years in Iceland and have fished seven years in Alaska at Lake Iliamna. Alaska mosquitos are worse than Iceland mosquitoes. One of my guide/pilots in Alaska had a colorful description of the mosquitoes on Lower Talarik Creek: They can stand flat-footed and ***k a turkey.

I did not see any mosquitoes when I was there last week but there were lots of little flies in some places.

I recommend rain pants, in addition to what was already mentioned. I second the recommendation for a tripod.

I was in Iceland a few years back. This is the most connected to the internet country I have ever seen. Bring a credit card with lots of money behind it. Gas and food are expensive but the country is fantastic as far as photographic opportunities are concerned. The people are very friendly and all speak very good English if you do not speak Icelandic. Enjoy and send us some pics when you can.

Went last fall-45-55. Rainwear. Used zero cash-everything is a debit card. Find one with no fees and conversion rate and no up charge. I used a Schwab debit-was perfect. Fuel was $2 per liter. Food expensive but can get burgers and hotdogs at gas stations. Take toilet paper. Great country but infrastructure has not caught up with Tourist. Got Icelandic sim card at the airport for Data. Google maps was a must for finding addresses-Garmin was not. Great photography-enjoy.
