Nine Pipe Refuge, about 40 miles north of Missoula is a beautiful place. Landscapes, birds, waterfowl, etc.

Found some unbelievable airfare to Bozeman and a rental car. Planning on spending a week in and around Glacier Middle of September. I have no route planned or any schedule. Any tips on must see's along the way or in the park would be greatly appreciated. Never made it to Glacier and have always wanted to go.

Drove by 9 pipe the other day and it has a lot of water this year, which means a lot of birds.

Wow! Thanks for all of the information. Seems the only fire info we get in Texas are the California Fires. But round trip to Bozeman for $235.00 gets me to Yellowstone. Was there many years ago and have a few slides of the highlights. Would like to get off the beaten path so, again suggestions are appreciated. Very disappointed, and sad about Glacier. Thanks for the tips, I somehow new this would be a far better resource for travel info than the department of tourism.

I drive truck unnin the area from salt Lake. Upnto last week, coming back from Billings, the smoke was everywhere. If you want to go to Glacier, look into flying into Great Falls to save a few hours driving.

Otherwise, fly to Bozeman, hit Yellowstone, come back via Ennis and then to Norris, and get shots of the fly fishermen on the Madison. Worth the side trip off of highway 191 (191 takes you from Bozeman to West Yellowstone. Or you can go to Livingston and enter the park from the north.

Can’t go wrong isnyou go looking for barns either.

I was in college at Montana State in the ‘70’s. Majored in TV production. Go to Big Sky on your way south to Yellowstone. North, there is Glacier and west is Butte with it’s copper mines. East, the Little Big Horn battle field but it is a long drive. You can go locally and stand with one foot on either side of the Missouri River too. Make sure you have a wide angle lens. There was a camera store down town where I purchased my first Hasselblad...big sky country with hundreds of photo opportunities.

I would go to Custers Battlefield and then north of there Pompeys Piller. There is a very good Lewis and Clark museum there also. Both excellent stops. If you go to Yellowstone take RT 212 ,Beartooth hwy. Very pretty and high.
