Found some unbelievable airfare to Bozeman and a rental car. Planning on spending a week in and around Glacier Middle of September. I have no route planned or any schedule. Any tips on must see's along the way or in the park would be greatly appreciated. Never made it to Glacier and have always wanted to go.

Glacier is partially closed right now due to wildfires, and the way they are spreading the whole park may be closed in the next 2 weeks.

Yellowstone closer to Bozeman. If you go there consider beartooth pass to the northeast.

If you do go to Glacier consider Lewis and Clark caverns to the west of Bozeman.

As MT Shooter says, the western part of the park is closed. But throughout the entire park and even beyond, is a cloud of smoke--thicker or thinner depending on location. The smoke makes it difficult to get clear pictures of anything.

Ar Glacier you will need a long telephoto lens as some of the wildlife will be distant. A jacket/coat for cool evenings is needed. You will see snow in the high country. You will also see lots of stars at night.

Very smokey here in Montana. Helena had its worst air quality day yesterday. If you haven't been to Yellowstone, you may want to consider it. Lake MacDonald Lodge is closed in Glacier. The road is closed from Apgar to the top of the Going To The Sun (Logan Pass). You can go through St. Mary's and up to the top of the pass. Good luck. It's another tough summer in Montana for fires.

Careful, I just read a news article yesterday where a man and his son were trapped inside Glacier by wildfires and had to drive straight through an inferno to get out. They made it.

I love that area in the fall but I've planned a trip next year in the spring just because of summer and fall fires that may be likely to occur.

They did not get through, their path was blocked by a fallen tree and they had to BACK up all the way through that same inferno. Their car was destroyed along with their belongings, but they were rescued by rangers in a boat. But at least they survived the flames.

Monitor the situation closely. Here was my look at Glacier yesterday. I'm in Poulson today and can not see Lake Flathead from our room.

Looking out my window in Missoula and can't see the mountains. Most of the park is closed and I expect it will all be closed very soon. I would head for Yellowstone.

YELLOWSTONE! It is a magical place and the animals are amazing. Do take a lightweight puffy jacket for evenings and mornings. Also long pants.
