Whatever happened to the true pocket-sized camera? ... You know - the ones that shot FF, but could be slid into a pants pocket?

Seems to me there were a number of them around, at one time ... you know the ones I mean? ... Secret Agents used them .... right?

Yeah, but Dave ... the Minox was just for taking pics of documents and stuff ... didn't James Bond and Maxwell Smart!!!! (et al) ... have something bigger, too?
Maybe that was just later, after the Saint (Roger Moore) took over from Sean Connery ...
Seems to me they had something bigger ... may have been waterproof, too ....

If just for documents why did Minox use "Little Camera big Pictures" as a advertising slogan? The claimed up to 11"X14" - dave

I should hope so, and all, Dave ... since a legal sized document is 8.5" wide x 14" long ... so, if that's what they were designed to shoot - they'd have to do 11x14.
But, the pocket-sized things I'm referring to, actually shot 35mm film ... NOT 8mm ....
It'll come to me, I'm sure ...
Have to go through all my James Bond films ....

Secret agents looking for ultimate stealth often utilized sub-miniature cameras, which are not full frame (35mm film size). Minox cameras, for example.

Yes, but they were just for copying documents ...
When they had bigger fish to fry ... they went to 35mm ....
If you try and fry 8mm film ... it will turn to a crisp, PDQ, Rook!

Minolta made a beautiful 16mm camera I'm sorry I sold, and there was a half frame camera not too long agothat got twice as many pictures on a standard 35mm roll of film, I can't remember the brand.

Looks like - User ID - managed to put together a neat collection of half-frame film cameras, there, Vern - along with a modern Digital Camera size comparison shot of the Panasonic Lumix and Sony a6000. These are just small cameras, though ... nothing like what you and I were referring to ... have you seen the Light 16, Vern?

Vern - the attached photo shows the Light 16 ... truly a palm-sized digital camera. Not sure whether the 16 refers to a 16mm format, or the 16 built-in lenses ...
It's expensive, though - as all new technologies are. However, they recently provided some Refurbished models at decreased cost ... take a look ...

There are a lot of 35mm film cameras that will fit neatly into your pocket. I have 10 disposables in my drawer right now that are easily pocket sized. Olympus Trip is also one.

R ... shirt pocket, pants pocket, or jacket pocket?
That Light 16 is a dead-ringer (size-wise) for those old Minox things ... they all fit in a shirt pocket ...
Most "pocket-size" cameras, are actually better fitted to a jacket (or coat) pocket ...
There's no DSLR which fits in that category ... although I do have a Sony alpha a58 (w/18-55) which comes pretty close!

The Olympus XA is a full frame camera and would fit in a shirt pocket. It was designed to fit in a shirt pocket.

Most shirt pockets, I believe, R - are designed for smokers - so they can put in a packet of cigarettes - instead of sliding them up their shirt sleeve.
Mine, very seldom, ever, get used, for more than a pair of sunglasses (one side, only) or a pen ...
It's difficult - to me - understanding how ANY camera, can fit in a pocket like that, without ripping it off the rest of the fabric!
