Actually the Apple operating system was created on the back of UNIX and is a much more complex system than Windows which was created on the back of DOS (for Microsoft version). If you go into the heart of the Apple operating system you will go into the LIBRARY which is quite complex and if you don't know what you are doing you can crash your computer, that is why Apple tends to hide it from their clients. By the way I use both Windows and Mac OS. My main programming career has been with IBM, Windows and UNIX.

I have always felt Mac's were PC's for dummies. I don't mean the people who own them are dummies - I just think the OS was created for dummies. I can recall making a trip to an Apple Store to experience a Mac because I wanted to learn about them. I discovered it was no more intuitive than Windows. We each have our own learning styles and preferences. I like the variety of options with Windows. I understand not everyone agrees with my thinking. That's fine. I Just don't appreciate hearing, "Get a Mac - you won't have any problems".

Ok you are welcome. Threre is always the chance that a galactic cosmic ray (GCR) will flip a bit. Historically not much problem on Terra Firma, but as as memory densities have continued to increase bit flips due to GCRs have become higher probability events. But you would need two errors or more to cause the problem described. That doesn’t fit the GCR model.

“The nature of probability is that unlikely events will happen”.

As improbable as errors caused by cosmic rays and the resulting particles sounds, you’re correct. Some years ago, researchers at Livermore (LLNL) noted errors in long running models on supercomputers. The problem was traced to the occasional flipped bit, which over a long model runtime, skewed the results noticably. When it was researched further, it was found that upon rereading, the corrupted data was almost always correct on disk, the the data corruption was occurring in the disk cache. The answer was changing storage providers to one that implemented parity checking on both reads and writes.

DRAM with parity / ECC is available, but more expensive than non parity DRAM and is typically used in high demand servers, while most PCs use the cheaper non-parity DRAM where the occasional flipped bit usually (but not always!) has little to no noticeable effect.

I have no idea how you come to that conclusion from my comment(s). That is really convoluted! Mark

How do those two sentences make sense?

For some reason my Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app stopped working. i solved it by going to Adobe and reinstalling. I'm never surprised by PC glitches, but at times I do find them mysterious.
Please, no Mac comments or "Go Apple Comments". I live in a small condo community. In the past two days, I assisted three Mac users solve small issues. An occasional glitch is the most I've had to deal in 22 years of PC/Windows computers. I've always been able to solve an issue. The worst has been re-installation/recovery of an OS.

Thanks for stopping by!

For some reason my Adobe Creative Cloud desktop ap... (show quote)

Yesterday started by waiting for a windows update to finish (should have happened overnight????) then about an hour later the adobe desk top app going belly up.
The timing appears to be coincidental since others had the adobe problem without the update. A reinstall fixed it.

Reinstalled like you said.
No idea why it happened.
First issue I've had with the latest LR/PS release.

This same thing happened to me first on my desktop system and then a few days later when I pulled my laptop out the use it too. I’m inclined to think this is an adobe problem not a windows glitch but who news...
Anyway I tried first running the cc repair then it removed or moved the executable and then I had to go to adobe and re download CC

I just remembered who you are, where you hang out and your ideologies. Can't waste my time with you.

Don't expect that most Windows people will ever understand.

Without addressing all of your other claims and like Mark, trying to avoid the (unending) Mac vs PC battles, where did you get the idea that 50% of Windows CPU time is spent on anti virus SW? It’s built into Windows, and my CPU idles at 2-3% utilization unless I’m running a specific application. And btw, you do have the option to prevent/delay Windows updates (but not necessarily good practice to do so).

I use Windows as well as MacOS at work. I am familiar with both OS's and their eccentricities.

Ok..so when you are wrong, you can't admit it? I didn't mean to get your panties in an uproar. By the by, dear boy, you have no idea who I am. You have made an assumption. In doing so, you inherit the first three letters of the word. It suits you.

Both Lightroom CC Classic, and Photoshop wouldn't open a couple of days ago on my iMac, I went to the Creative Cloud app. and re-entered my password and everything worked fine after that.

I noticed I had been signed out of CC as well the other day. Log-in was routine and I did not have any issues after that.
