I'd suggest looking into Silverfast software. I've been using it since my scanner software failed to be compatible with Windows 7.

Helping friend scan slides from the 1950s. My share is about 1000 slides. I have a Nikon Super CoolScan 5000 ed scanner with a feed attachment which is no longer supported by Nikon. Options seem to be setup an extra computer with Windows 97 (or earlier) or use VueScan software. Question pros/cons of each method and experiences with those options.
Thanks.

Silverfast is nice. But a copy that works with a Coolscan costs $500 and you need to buy it separately for each scanner. I got it free with my Epson V750.

If you are used to Nikon Scan, Vuescan is less convenient and take some time to learn how to use it. It is not taylor-made like Nikon Scan.

The Vista driver workaround is free unless you need to hire someone to do the 10 minute driver install.

Vuescan. You do NOT want to run unsupported operating systems in
If you don't let the computer the computer connect yo the internet what is the problem?
The Nikon 5000 will run with Windows XP. But Vuescan works fine with newer computers and
you don't need to keep an extra one around.
