Beautiful photos. It is hard to believe that these are from a P&S!

How it got that title, I'll never know.... True, you can point and shoot, but then again you can do that too with any of the higher priced Nikons and Cannons...
I was hesitant to call it a P&S until I looked it up online-that's how it was listed. To me, it would more fit into the category of a Bridge Camera.
When they get real 'technical', ANY camera with a "fixed lens" is considered P&S. Within that category are "compact" or "pocket" and then the "bridge" or "Super Zoom" models. Way too many different terms to describe the same cameras.

Thanks. That is a much clearer definition.

Another thing about the ones often called "bridge" cameras is that they tend to "LOOK" like a dSLR, except the lens is not removable. What 'most' refer to as 'P&S' are much thinner. Also the 'bridge' cameras have a LOT more choices on 'modes' for Aperture or Shutter Priority as well as MANUAL settings. Most 'P&S' category cameras will have some choice of settings, but NOT MANUAL like the 'bridge' cameras.

Excellent pictures.
Thank you...wish our Hummingbirds were as colorful as yours!
I remember when I got my first digital camera...it was only so many kilobytes and I was so excited! I told my sister this was the wave of the future and as they advanced would soon become as good if not better than our SLR's. Too bad I didn't have the money to invest in this technology ;-) Then when I got my first 3.5 megabyte little Sony I was in 7th heaven! After I started taking photo's such as the following and sent them to my sister she was sold on digital. She sold her expensive Nikon equipment, went digital and never looked back. This is one of the photo's I took with my 3.5 Sony

Super composition, very nice.
Fantastic Bird photos with the sx40. I love my sx40 too. When you upload your bird pictures to the site can you hit the original logo. This enables the viewer to hit the text (download) under the picture and then we can view the exif properties of the image . Too bad you can"t reupload these pictures hitting original. Did you use auto on these?

So true ;)
For people who just want to point&shoot at something and let the camera set the apeture and shutter speed

Indeed, helpful elaboration and clarification.
I own a Canon SX30IS which I carry virtually everywhere. It has certainly served me well in addition to my 60D. I am looking forward to the rumored inchoate SX50??? model which I hope to see soon. I hope it will include a full range F/2.8 lens which is standard on the new Panasonic DMC FZ200. Let Canon read that I have the Pana backordered.
I call mine a "Crutch" camera as it has helped me solve some tough photographic challenges. The articulated LCD has really enabled me to "see" some photographs that otherwise would not have happened.

Are these out of the camera or was there some post processing done?

Super shots Carolina Wings, looks like you have a winner with the SX40
