My depressed state is in need of some photography. Isn't that what we came here for?
And the last time I checked I was entitled to express my feelings.
Can we please get back to the photography forum...

Well just go there Bob. This is not the photography forum.

I came to this conclusion from personal experience over the course of 40 odd years. During that time there were numerous situations where their assistance was necessary and they shirked their responsibility. And other times they clearly had broken the law and their actions were covered up immediately by other boys in blue.

Too bad the shotgun injury wasn't fatal to begin with. Maybe the older neighbors might have been spared a horrifying experience.

In the UK police don't carry guns (mostly) and there are gun laws. I'm not saying our laws are better than than the US but I know which I prefer.

Oh boy! Nobody gets to have a gun except the unlawful criminals who don't abide by laws anyway! That's quite a hot deal.

In the UK Police Supervisors carry guns. It goes like this: Bang, Bang,--Central, central this is Officer 612, I am at ..... and I'm under fire. Send the Supervisor quickly, I need a gun.

Likewise at Buckingham Palace the Queens police carry not only sidearms but Full Automatic Shoulder weapons. Machine guns if you will, but then I guess the Queens ass is worth saving isn't it?

If someone breaks into your house you should I guess call a "Professor". The "Stupidist" comment is one of the most offensive comments that I have ever seen. I hope a Police Officer never has to risk his or her life for you or one of your loved ones. You may at that time change your opinion. SAD

Oh he'd call and the police officers that responded would risk themselves without question, without knowing his attitude toward them. Yep, that would be my definition of "stupidist". You are quite correct. That is SAD. Maybe I understand why your location is listed as "in hiding"

I feel that most police officers are very commendable, at least the ones I have interfaced with and one of my nicest and finest neighbors, just 2 homes away is a cop. My only gripe is with police funerals. Yes, I certainly believe fallen officers should be honored BUT ... I feel the same about our troops. In Arizona, if a police officer dies in the line of duty, a funeral procession of no less than 2000 (Yes!!) others with motorcyles and on foot will form the procession. Sometimes 3000 from around the entire state. Think of the effect and the hypocrisy of such a practice. Abandon your post. The funeral is more important than protecting the public and ... To hell with our troops. They are not as deserving as the police. I find it sickening.
I feel that most police officers are very commenda... (show quote)

Let's see..... it is hipocrasy for members of their profession to show respect for one killed in the line of duty by taking time off, ON THEIR OWN TIME, to show up at the funeral? Sorry you feel that way.

I appologize. I was unaware, since there are always so many of them, that they were off duty officers. If that is the case, they are to be commended. As for the second part of my original post, I think it is shameful that we do not show as much respect for our fallen military people.

There are 2 thing I would like to add to this discussion. One, to legally carry a gun you need to have a concealed carry permit. There are exceptions like living in Mass. NYC, and parts of California. In most States they have open carry, where you can carry a gun, but it must be totally visable to anyone. Concealed Carry is when the gun must be hidden from view, and a permit is required. To get a permit, in Louisiana, and the member States, you must fill out a form, sware that you are not a felon, not, or ever committed spousal abuse, have ever been treated for mental conditions. Plus, you need to be finger printed, need to aknowledged by the local law inforcement, pass a criminal background review, take a firearm class for your weapon, take a classes for laws pertaining to concealed carry. Upon renewal, must take the firearm test again, and update to the laws. I feel more people should be carrying firearms while out and about. The more people carrying will increse the fear a robber/murderer may have about making contact with his victum. When I shot the robber back in 1980, he already had a knife to my throat. If knew I was armed, he may have thought first.

The second is about the police. I live near the City of New Orleans. The police force there, and in my Parish, Jefferson, has been going through some through house cleaning. Before Katrina, the police force in N.O. was riddled with corruption, and violence. All this came to a head during Katrina, and the months following storm. The police in N.O. actually committed murder more than once. I'm refering to the Dansinger Bride incident, where N.O. police murdered a 18 year old black retarded man, shot a womans arm off, wounded several others, all were trying to flee high water flooding their neighborhood. The police said they were fired upon, and only returned fire, and gun was found on the bridge. The police were cleared of criminal charges by the State Court System. The FBI picked up the case, and found the gun was planted, and 4 of the police officers covered up their actions by a concerted group of lies, and false reports. All are now in prison. Another incedent was the murder of Henry Glover. Mr. Glover was shot by police while sleeping in his car in New Orleans, following Katrina. He was shot by a officer who wanted him to move immediatly. When he hesitated the officer shot him. Other officers attempted to cover up the murder, one burnt the car, with Mr. Glovers body inside, another filed a completly false report. Another officer testified he witnessed the event and lied to investigators, and the court. Finally all were found out, and are now in Federal Prison. Just a few months ago, the warrent squad forced there way into a home where a known drug dealer was supposed to be, and shot a innocent man standing with his back to the entrance door, going up the stairs. Other police shooting have taken place in New Orleans, and Jefferson Parish, that have been deemed murder. Thankfully, the Mayor, of N.O. since Katrina has replaced the Police Chief, with Ronald Surpass from Nashville. He is doing a great job of cleaning out the very bad apples in the N.O.P.D. He requires his officers to be at a higher standard, expects perfection, and will fire, and jail bad officers. Newell Norman of the Jefferson Parish S.O. is rooting out bad officers also. Recently, a officer with rank was fired for malfeasance of office, when he excessivly tasered a suspect.

Every police officer is not bad, but the bad ones get the daily attention of the public, through news reports. Little is mentioned of the dangerous traffic stops, domestic violence calls these officers are involved in. Due to budget restrictions police cannot be everywhere. Most officers have to accept "details" just to make ends meet at home. These details put the officers in further harms way. They guard neighborhoods by added patrols, guard movie theaters, bowling alleys, anywhere a crowd may be. Even the most dangerous detail, guarding a bar, and patrons. These "off duty Police" are required to step in for fights, brawls, shootings, auto accidents, and any thing that may happen during their "detail" for a few extra bucks. However, the police can't be everywhere. That is why I carry my PPK. I will be responsable for my own, and people with me safety. If I am out to dinner, and someone attemts to rob the place, I will step up to the plate, and shoot if I can safely do so without risking a innocent patron. If I can shoot, I will shoot to kill. Why, because the robber has already shown his intention, and weapon. Only you can be responsable for your own safety.

Maybe where you live the cops are stupid. But where I live, 1000 applicants test, if we are lucky we might get 8 or 9 that get selected to the academy. After two years of training and probation they can still get cut. Starting salery $80,000.00.

One should consult an automotive engineer for safer seat belts, a civil engineer for a better bridge, a surgeon for internal medicine, a computer programmer for software problems, and Sarah Palin for firearms expertise.

She certainly believes that she knows all she needs to know ….....

"He who warned, uh, the British that they weren't gonna be takin' away our arms, uh, by ringing those bells, and um, makin' sure as he's riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be sure and we were going to be free, and we were going to be armed." --Sarah Palin, botching the history of Paul Revere's midnight ride, June 3, 2011

What sane and reasonable person could ever argue with that ?

Yes, but is that because of the nature of the people, or the nature of the police ...... ?
