Firearms certainly didn't help this 92 year old woman who was gunned down in her own home by the Atlanta police. The police didn't stop the crime, but committed it and then tried to cover it up.

Kathryn Johnston (June 26, 1914 - November 21, 2006)was an elderly Atlanta, Georgia woman who was shot by undercover police officers in her home on Neal Street in northwest Atlanta on November 21, 2006, where she had lived for 17 years. Three officers had entered her home in what was later described as a 'botched' drug raid. Officers cut off burglar bars and broke down her door using a no-knock warrant. Police said Johnston fired at them and they fired in response; she fired one shot out the door over the officers' heads and they fired 39 shots, five or six of which hit her. None of the officers were injured by her gunfire, but Johnston was killed by the officers. Police injuries were later attributed to "friendly fire" from each others' weapons.

One of the officers planted marijuana in Johnston's house after the shooting. Later investigations found that the paperwork stating that drugs were present at Johnston's house, which had been the basis for the raid, had been falsified. The officers later admitted to having lied when they submitted cocaine as evidence claiming that they had bought it at Johnston's house. Three officers were tried for manslaughter and other charges surrounding falsification and were sentenced to ten, six, and five years respectively.

They should put these fine officers in the general population. :-)

interpret this to mean you have had an interaction with the police where you didn't get your way.

When I was young I didn't want to be anything but a cop. Thank God that never happened. Mind you I stay on the good side of the law.
I don't know about anywhere else, but here in NYC they are the laziest bastards on earth and a bunch of thieves to boot. They think that they can do whatever they want, they make the rules, and the law doesn't apply to them.
When one of them gets shot, although I know it's not not right, my heart jumps a little for joy.
I have nothing but contempt for them all. If I ever need one I'll do without, thank you!

You make it sound like that sort of thing happens every day in the UK. It really doesn't. We have had shooting sprees in the past (all carried out with what were, at the time, legally held guns), and as a result most guns are banned. If you want to own a gun in the UK then you are pretty well restricted to a shotgun, and then you have to satisfy the police that you have a good reason for owning one - you're a farmer who needs to shoot vermin, for example. And there are all sorts of laws regarding gun safes etc. There are illegal guns around, I am sure, but even then most "armed" robberies are carried out with replica weapons which frighten and threaten but do not kill.

I feel that most police officers are very commendable, at least the ones I have interfaced with and one of my nicest and finest neighbors, just 2 homes away is a cop. My only gripe is with police funerals. Yes, I certainly believe fallen officers should be honored BUT ... I feel the same about our troops. In Arizona, if a police officer dies in the line of duty, a funeral procession of no less than 2000 (Yes!!) others with motorcyles and on foot will form the procession. Sometimes 3000 from around the entire state. Think of the effect and the hypocrisy of such a practice. Abandon your post. The funeral is more important than protecting the public and ... To hell with our troops. They are not as deserving as the police. I find it sickening.

Just so I have this right. You are saying, that every single police officer in NYC is stupid and ignorant. And you arrivedat this conclusion how? Like to know what your occupation is and if you feel the same towards yourself and your colleagues.

They didn't abandon their post, didn't know you they also have days off and come as representatives of thsir depart to pay respect. The ration for police per thousand of citizens is in the area of 1 per so many thousand. Hypocrisy is perhaps the wrong word to apply.

Last time I looked, the robber was arrested on the spot, if he displayed a show of force against the law enforcement officers, he still was arrested but if the show of force was dealdy force, he was arrested in an inert position

The cops must be smarter now, they are required to have a degree these days. Gone are the good old boys who would grab a law breaker and beat the hell out of them and teach them a lesson so to speak. NOW they are mostly a bunch of educated as*&%!#$ that pulls out the weapon of choice and pulls the trigger until it no longer makes any more loud noise. Dead crooks can't sue and can't testify. Personally I don't feel any safer when I see weapons on ANYBODY, irregardless who or what they are, unless they are in my "sights"!

Back when we still lived in town, my wife was home alone. She heard a man violently rattling the door, trying to get in. She called the police, then grabbed a pistol. Apparently the man did not want to be in the house once my wife pointed the .357 at him through the window, he left. When the officer arrived 40 minutes later, he explained that he was 35 miles away.
Guns kill people? This one may have saved my wifes life.

I came to this conclusion from personal experience over the course of 40 odd years. During that time there were numerous situations where their assistance was necessary and they shirked their responsibility. And other times they clearly had broken the law and their actions were covered up immediately by other boys in blue.

My depressed state is in need of some photography. Isn't that what we came here for?
And the last time I checked I was entitled to express my feelings.
Can we please get back to the photography forum...
