I have a Tamron 90mm f2.8. I absolutely love it. Mine is a Nikon mount AF-d. If you get one try to get the "Life Size Adapter" with it. It is a matched diopter that allows 1:1 reproduction. Without the diopter, t is a 1:2 closeup lens. The diopter is hard to buy by itself. If you want a dedicated hood try to buy that at the same time also. I use an aftermarket hood on mine. You don't mention what camera you use.

Nice camera! This lens is missing the diopter.

Tamron has many macro lenses in their catalog, and many of them have been on sale on many occasions, and probably will continue to do so!
One just have to keep an eye open!

I got this used once for a canon then now for a Nikon. It is great on both. I also got it used. I would never be without.
Would buy it again.

I have an older MF Tamron 90mm macro which I use with an 'Adaptall 2' mount on my Canons. Yes it's that old. Extremely sharp when properly focused and I can only imagine that later versions are sharper and better. AND much more convenient.

I own the new G2 Tamron 90 mm macro. I chose it over the Canon 100 mm L. I am glad I did. The VC vibration control is outstanding.

I bought the Tamron 90mm macro f/2.8 earlier this year. It was $150 off at my local camera shop.

I own the full frame Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro 1:1 VC USD Lens for Nikon F, the full frame Tamron Telephoto SP AF 180mm f/3.5 Di LD (IF) Macro 1:1 Autofocus Lens for Nikon F, and the crop frame (APS-C) Tamron SP 60mm f/2 Di II 1:1 Macro Lens for Nikon F. All have delivered exceptional results. The attached samples were taken with the 90mm.

If you want to photograph insects that fly away when you get close, I recommend a 150mm Sigma or the 180mm Canon (if you shoot Canon). You won't scare as many of your subjects if you are a little farther away from them.
Nikon has a 200mm macro that is very good, if you shoot Nikon.

The longer focal lengths help but are not needed for the vast majority of subjects. The downsides to the longer lens are bigger, heavier, more costly & less DOF...I have lots of macro images on my Flickr stream of insects shot with a 105mm macro (older MF model) that did not fly away. The secret is knowing the subject and their habits...

The Tamron 90mm f2.8 is my favorite lens. Great. They did it right with this one.
