Hey HedgeHoggers
I am tired of hearing about getting my camera sensor and lens cleaned! All the major camera stores and their manufacturers offer free cleaning & check. So stop paying 💰
for these services!

Would you like to find one in my location then? I certainly cannot.

I am a happy Canon owner. But, 3 years ago I bought a Nikon, sight unseen and unknown model from a new employee to help him get settled in.
What I got is a D70, bag, kit lens, flash, two accessory lens and a 70-200 Tamron lens.
I like the camera for vehicle carry and quick grab the bag and run.
Recently the rubber seal around the mirror has dried up and pieces have gotten on the sensor. There's 2 large smudges in the upper right corner mostly visible on sky shots.
What is your thoughts, repair for likely the value of the body, or junk it and move on?

If it's just a matter of spots on the sensor, clean the sensor.
My personal opinion is that it all depends. If you use your Canon more often then there is no need keeping the D70. If the D70 gives you good service then replace the rubber and have a technician to clean the sensor and replace the dry rubber in the mirror box. If the price is too high then you will have to dump the camera.
The D70 has 6 Mp. which will satisfy many of your needs.
Own a D850 which I love. But I still have and often use my D70 for those moments when I just want a quick shot that will never need to be a magazine ad nor a big poster. I can let my grandkids use it with no worries. And I never have to worry about someone stealing it.
What are you referring to?
I bought a d80 in excellent condition as a second camera for $160 from HEH.
remove lens , use hose end of a vacuum cleaner , hold hose 1 inch away , first with mirror down , then use shutter button for a 2 or more sec exposure , repeat .now , if you have loose dust / pieces on the sensor , they will come out .sticky stuff maybe .also clean lens that way .

I’d say junk and wash your hand with plenty of holy water and harsh soap before handling your canon it won’t smell Nikon and keep responding to your adjustment
Me thinks he speaks with great bias!
Everything you read tells you not to do this , not even canned air because of moisture . Before you anything go to YouTube and watch some videos. I get mine cleaned professionally for $65.
I'd sell it to someone who enjoys repairing photo gear, and is equipped to do so. He / she can get either a repaired, ready to use, system, or a source of parts for other repairs on other cameras, out of it. Current prices on Nikon D70s-at KEH, etc-are not high enough for me to figure it would be worth my fixing it myself (time wasted), or my paying someone else to fix it (money wasted).
