I am looking for a photography program that is free, easy to work with and is supported. I do not know photoshop or lightroom and do not have time to study on a regular basic. Also, I am moving to include my Nikon D7200 with a new D850. I take a lot of micro, nature and air shows. I also have a need to build a web site to start selling prints. Need to work to save the print for sale with cc or something and/or a site that I can safely sell the prints thru.

Thanks,
SubVet

You get what you pay for.... If you wish to start a business, and get everything free, you have a tough row to hoe... Good luck.

It is a jungle out there. There may be a bit of ageism or "tribalism" going on where a young couple want someone from their age-bracket to shoot. Dunno.

As far as free software you could look at Topaz Studio. Easy to use typically means that it does very little or doesn't allow you to do anything much to your pictures. Most people/companies who offer free software do so as an enticement to purchase their better/more capable versions. It cost money to develop, maintain and support any software, so you get what you pay for. Also, be aware that the Nikon D850 has a new RAW file structure and that you may run into issues getting your pictures to your PC or Mac and being able to view them without updates/upgrades to your computer. If you don't plan on working with RAW files, then purchasing a D850 is pretty much a waste of time. As for a website to sell from, you might want to look at Smugmug as a starting point. There is a monthly subscription fee, but pictures can be bought directly from their site.

Just simple question I am new to digital I was using a A 2 and a 10s but i just never had programs to make pictures look better i used filters .So why is it so important that you use such a high end photoshop why don't anyone use pictures the way they came out I use gimp not a lot I want to see my photos the way my camera took them also the way I set everything you can make a bad picture good i guess that's great but to me it seem's like its cheating. Just like in school we were not aloud to use a calculator back then they were so costly I wouldn't have had one .But I am retired now and i don't make a lot but i can buy anything I need its most of the time its just a new toy i want.I know my Writing skills are bad but i try i had a very bad stroke couldn't even talk for 2 years plus my wife past away she would always check for things about my writing skills .And i am really not trying to be a smart butt i just had question ..

Is it cheating for an artist to paint a scene but leave out the power lines to make it look better? The photographer creates; he does not record.

Not you, SubVet, all the arrogant twits that are contemptuous to those with less knowledge then them.

Your negative and snide comments do not do anything to help the OP at all.... The gist of all the messages here is that time, effort, AND money are required to build a viable business,no matter what the genre, and SubVet obviously has a lot to learn.

I try to get my photos as close as I can to perfect in the camera. Few actually are. Even Ansel Adams dodged and burned in the darkroom. I have a vision of what I want when I press the button. I use software to complete my vision. I am, however, a realist. I don’t like HDR because it isn’t a real portrayal of a scene. I enhance a bit. Change contrast, adjust white balance. Crop. But the scene remains as it is.

Let's title this request "The complexities of photography." You obviously have nice equipment and I assume you are shooting in JPG so as not to have to edit so you won't need a complex image editor. I suggest that you try the image editor that came with your computer software, either apple or windows, or the software program that comes with Nikon cameras. These would be free (actually you've already paid for them) and they can be rudimentary at best but will allow you to darken or lighten an image and do some other minor edits. Alas, every program has a learning curve. You can build web sites through many web vendors, Weebley and others: I like Weebly the best for me. It may be more difficult to sell through your own site. There are various sites that will post your work and sell it, do an online search, including Fine Art America: read the fine print on their agreements first. Good luck with your endeavors.

I think trying to find free and easy is not going to work out. There is some free software including Nikon's Capture Nx-D and VewNXi as well as GIMP. As far as I can tell any software that will accomplish what you want will take time and effort to learn. Then again you may have a lot to learn about photography too. That learning process can be slow or fast depending on many variables and can be very enjoyable and satisfying if you have a healthy attitude.

Why do you ask, friend? Doesn't Nikon give a free processing app with every purchase?

P.S. ...and correct me if I'm wrong, but it's the native 12 bit NEF conversion for Nikon's brainstorm of a RAW and very much unlike 14 bit.

Let's see you buy very expensive equipment for professional use but don't want professional pictures but freeware that is lacking.
Like having a full Nikon F2 system the finest film and running to the photo kiosk to get the film developed and printed to sell.

Why does GIMP have an "extensive learning curve"? I want to do some simple things like remove wires from a pic or enhance clouds without darkening the scene, perhaps print only a portion of a scene.

I recommend using darktable for that. It is so easy I can't even remember how to use Gimp for that.
There are only a few modules I've found I use:
- lens correction
- base curve -> fusion
- white balance
- perspective correction (does the same thing as the next module)
- crop and rotate image
- spot removal (use this to edit out the wire)
- shadows and hilights (start with just turning on) (radius)(3D)
- contrast brig...ss saturation
- color zones
- local contrast = sharpen image (detail) (3D)
- defringe
- denoise (profiled) (must do)
