I would try to replace it with a 300S rather than a 300. It is still old technology. Better to bite the bullet and go to brand new technology if possible and the D500.

I have a d300s with about 9500 clicks. Really good condition as only used for about 6 months. Double batteries and charger with original box. Thought the offers from B&H and Adorama were stealing so I have it in the box. It is in FL and I am in NC until September.

Old cameras still take great pictures. I shoot a Nikon D3 and love the results. MDP is a great store for buy used you get 6 month warranty. Look at used d3 and d3s cameras remember the D3 is good for 300k shutter count but serviceman be an issue because its old.

To Sharpshooters comments:
Isn't it fascinating that not so long ago, this WAS the pinnacle of a high tech pro-oriented DSLR, and was praised as such.
It is unfortunate that your comments seem to dis it's stellar past. It really is still a great camera. And yes, I own one, so I am a bit biased.

I found a similar deal 2 yrs ago. It was $400 but it had many more shots. I think it's a pretty good deal.

this is what i am using , 80000 clicks , still working , but , if you dont need too much technologie , the D3400 could be it , 24 MP , sell for around $ 450 with descent kit lens .a lot lighter then the D300 .

I bought a 2nd D300 after troubles with my pop flash on the 1st one. $300 is about what I might expect to pay with less than 50K clicks.
I suggest buying from a local seller so you can see the condition. I keep my 18-200mm on the 2nd one and 70-300mm on the 1st. Great walk around cameras when I choose not to use my D810 or D3.

That's true but remember that the D300 was a "Pro" DX format camera whereas the D7000 is a prosumer so the build quality favors the D300. Technology wise the D7000 is better no question...

Also look at Robert's Cameras:

https://usedphotopro.com/catalogsearch/result/?cat=0&q=nikon+d300s

Even the D300s is going for a little over $300 and the D300 is going for about $200 - $275.

BTW: Robert's used stuff is every bit as good as KEH. I use both of them, never any problems.

You cold buy a D7100 for that price with a lens. The D300 is worth $200 - 250. I bouhht a D200 with a 5000 shutter count for $125. IF you can afford it look for an old D 3. It's built like a tank. Thats what im looking for now.

Last January I had my Nikon D300 stolen and have been keeping an eye out for another. Have run across what looks like a good deal but I really do not know the value in todays market. Comments are always welcome ...........

Nikon D300 with Nikon battery grip in like new condition.
2 chargers, 2 batteries, manual and original box.
16,500 Clicks.

Seller is original owner and is asking $450.

Being retired, running out and spending $1000+ is not an option. I still have my Nkon 50mm 1.8G lens and was happy with the Nikon D300.

Thanks to all who respond.

If the 16,500 clicks is verifiable, then I would get this. You can get some cheaper but they may have way many more shutter activations than this one.

For less than $450 there are several good condition D300s models available. I think the sensor is the same as in the D300, but there are a few things either additional or better.
Use the link that Amphoto1 posted and compare the two cameras (and prices).
The biggest, maybe the only, difference between the D300 and the D300s is that the D300s has a spotmeter built in. I owned both, and both were excellent cameras.

I'd probably let my similar D300s with grip go for $300. It's in similar good condition with box.

Otherwise, I was going to turn it into an IR camera.

The 300s added Live View but not movies, or I just haven't found it yet. It also added 3D Tracking as an Autofocus mode. And some other things I forgot.
