Last January I had my Nikon D300 stolen and have been keeping an eye out for another. Have run across what looks like a good deal but I really do not know the value in todays market. Comments are always welcome ...........
Nikon D300 with Nikon battery grip in like new condition.
2 chargers, 2 batteries, manual and original box.
16,500 Clicks.
Seller is original owner and is asking $450.
Being retired, running out and spending $1000+ is not an option. I still have my Nkon 50mm 1.8G lens and was happy with the Nikon D300.

Price seems a little high, based on a quick look at recent sales at auction.
KEH is a good reference, but a retailer like them usually gets a little higher price because they clean and service the camera if needed, as well as offer a 90 day warranty. If buying from a private party, you would usually expect to pay a bit less, but not get any warranty nor expect the camera to have been professionally cleaned and serviced.
Look at the "sold" items on eBay for a better idea of what private party, no-warranty transaction sales are bringing:

For less than $450 there are several good condition D300s models available. I think the sensor is the same as in the D300, but there are a few things either additional or better.

I think $450 is a little high for used D300. Should be around $300. You can get used D7000 for this much, smaller, lighter and better IQ.

That's true but remember that the D300 was a "Pro" DX format camera whereas the D7000 is a prosumer so the build quality favors the D300. Technology wise the D7000 is better no question...

Too high. A bunch of D300's are selling for $200 or less on ebay. Read the listings carefully. If it's not in the condition advertised, Paypal will refund your money and postage. Look for a seller with top ratings that sells photographic equipment, and be sure the camera is advertised as being in good working order.

If he needed a pro model he would likely not be looking at a 300. Probably looking for familiarity.
Me personally, I would never own such old tech as a primary camera because of the low mp. I don’t even shoot Nikon but can embrace the marketing campaign used when the D800 came out, “you’ll want to shoot everything you’ve ever shot over again”!!! Remember that one?
It rings very true of old to new technology.
I would never stand still, let alone go purposely backwards, given the opportunity to go forward!!! Just me, and just saying!
