I've had that happen to me twice- I think it is laziness or cutting corners- not theft intended- as I got my packages the next delivery day. The first time it happened I thought the package was stolen off my porch and called it in to UPS. It's really irritating that the electronic delivery information is marked as delivered when it's not. But other than those 2 incidences that I've had very good, fast service from UPS.

UPS is on the verge of a major strike. May have just been a po'd driver who was trying to make UPS look bad.

I hope you reported this to his supervisor. He will be fired, NO DOUBT.

I had a package coming from Nikon USA via UPS. It was not marked signature required. I have "My Choice" so I tracked the truck all day as it drove past the entrance to my community at least 8 times. About 3:30 I got the "Getting Close" notification, so I went to the living room next to the front door. At 4:00 pm, I got pinged that the package had been delivered, but no picture attached. A moment later I heard the truck drive by without slowing down. I opened the door and there was nothing. Luckily I live in a townhome community with one way in and one way out. I walked to the outbound side and waited. I heard the truck stop and start a few times and stood in the road so he would have to stop when he got to me. I asked him about the package for my address. He just looked at me and reached across to the passenger side under the dashboard and pulled out my box. I asked him why he tagged it delivered when it wasn't. He said he could not find my unit number (all the houses have numbers prominently above the front doors). I asked him why he couldn't find mine when I heard at least 4 stops that he seemed to have found. He just hit the gas and left. My thought is he saw Nikon and figured he could get some free stuff, not knowing I was the rare person that was home and waiting.

Maybe not all porch thieves are out looking for opportunity, sometimes they might drive the truck.

I've had problems with UPS mis-delivering packages to the wrong home with same number on a different street. UPS does not use the +4 on your ZIP in the USA.

Solution: Buy from Amazon Prime and they now using their own delivery drivers often deliver on the third day, as in order day, day in between, delivery day. Or I rarely have problems with the USPS. And when I can I use PayPal to pay. Not just eBay. Including for services. They nearly always side with the buyer, and aggressively.

I really can't imagine a UPS or USPS or other stealing packages. Though I is stupid of Nikon to use a clearly marked box like that. Again Amazon, Ebay, B&H, Adorama are safer as far a shipping goes. A lot of the general public including most crooks would not know what those really mean or might contain.

Good advice! Although I am a Prime ‘user’ I hadn’t thought of this added benefit.

There's good reasons to report the incident to UPS. If you can indulge me in a little story.

Some 10 years ago, I worked in a large computer store full time and did moonlighting in a smaller computer store on the weekends. The smaller store would occasionally get these large Apple boxes with the hot item at the time, a MAC. They got them often and when I questioned this with the business owner, it was revealed that the driver was working with "his loader" to divert these MACs to "his" truck where he would sell them to various people, like my small computer store. It all smelled fishy to me so at the real main job, I just happened to be shipping and receiving manager where I had a good relationship with the UPS driver that dropped off packages daily.

I questioned him about this and gave him as much details as I could and he told me he would get back to me. A couple days later, he tells me that the UPS loss control cops was wanting to work with me and have me "acquire" one of these MACS. It was all very cloak and dagger as I was very skittish to expose my involvement in that manner and potentially get the owner of the weekend job in trouble. I was to meet this loss control guy in some isolated parking lot somewhere and turn over the acquired equipment. It was a very modern "craigs list" type of meetup and I turned the MAC over and he gave me the amount of money I paid to get it.

Perhaps a month later, UPS sent me a check for as I recall, 2.5K as a reward and the driver I was working with to report this supposedly also got a similar reward.

I was told it was done this way because the drivers are all Teamsters and they needed my information and the package. Fortunately, that was my only involvement, I didn't have to go to court or anything and not long after I left the smallish computer store job and that was that. Never heard back from anyone else but one can only imagine what happened to the driver and his loader.

Moral here is that you might be able to do some good and get a thief off the streets and get yourself a little check too. This is a true story, it happened. But it was a LONG time ago.

"Maybe not all porch thieves are out looking for opportunity, sometimes they might drive the truck." Maybe not all people are as suspicious as you are, Gilbert. Though this does seem to invite further investigation, making leaps of logic such as this may prove to be absurd.

I have to say I just cringe when it says UPS delivery......We live in a fairly large apartment complete..... our Fedex delivers delivers directly to the inside aptartment doors, USPS delivers to the mailboxes or to the apt office after buzzing the apt occupants and waiting for a reply. UPS.... our driver marks delivered and drops the package in the lobby; if signature is required doesn't bother to bring the package, just posts a attempted delivery notice and where to pick up the next day on the mailbox.

Yesterday UPS delivered my daughter's 3 photo frames from a wedding she shot. The driver left the package behind her car in the driveway instead of bringing it to the porch. I was parked next to her, backed up, pulled forward and, you guessed it, ran over the package. I never saw it. My daughter called, they are going to investigate. What is up with these drivers?

I've had that happen to me on couple occasions and never got my package so the next day I call the company where the package was coming from and told them I never got it but on the website it said delivered and they credited my account with no problem and the driver got some free watch bands, I think since it said watch company on the return address he may have thought it was a watch inside but it was only bands, I don't trust UPS at all.

UPS tracks their deliveries with extremely high accuracy GPS - they would have instantly seen that he didn't stop at your house. I had a package retrieved this way by UPS when their driver delivered it to the wrong street, but the correct street number.

When they scan the package as delivered it is geotagged. If he had gotten away with your package, once you called asking where it was, it would have been his last day at UPS.

I've had good drivers and bad drivers with both UPS and Fedex. The past few years, it seems they've all been bad. I've had packages marked as delivered that were actually delivered to another building, and packages delivered to the wrong place at the building (that has a sign saying no deliveries here - all deliveries to back door) and disappeared (got stolen).

Some people take pride in what they do and pay attention and some don't.
