I don't have all these worries. UPS and FedEx deliver to my U.S. Post Office box. Well, technically, they deliver it to the P.O. and a postal clerk delivers it to the mailbox. Best system I could hope for.

UPS.... our driver marks delivered and drops the package in the lobby; if signature is required doesn't bother to bring the package, just posts a attempted delivery notice and where to pick up the next day on the mailbox.

This is good to know. With 240,000 drivers and dock workers stealing packages, it's surprising that any of their daily 16 million packages are delivered.
Next time I order from B&H, I'll drive 2900 miles to pick up the package in person.

Sometimes, if you paid up front by credit card, you can get extra leverage from your credit card company. I once had a roughly similar problem and my credit card company reversed to charge. The vendor had to deal with the perpetrators.

Having experienced a similar UPS non-delivery “delivery” first hand, the experience above related by UHH member “JGW30033” does not surprise me. My situation involved a high-end radio shipped from CCrane in California to an address in Illinois. It took me quite a while to persuade the vendor and UPS that I had not received the radio. In the end, I demanded a full refund and it took another 30 days for that to be issued. Caveat emptor.

Sorry to hear about your negative experience. In the past 15 years, I have used online purchasing for a multitude of products (probably a thousand+, but I do not have a count) and delivered by Fedex, UPS, USPS and a few by DHL. I have yet to have a negative experience. Drivers have been prompt, courteous and often friendly. Perhaps I'm just lucky?

I know we all use UPS and Fed-Ex a lot and wanted to pass on my experience

I had a package coming from Nikon USA via UPS. It was not marked signature required. I have "My Choice" so I tracked the truck all day as it drove past the entrance to my community at least 8 times. About 3:30 I got the "Getting Close" notification, so I went to the living room next to the front door. At 4:00 pm, I got pinged that the package had been delivered, but no picture attached. A moment later I heard the truck drive by without slowing down. I opened the door and there was nothing. Luckily I live in a townhome community with one way in and one way out. I walked to the outbound side and waited. I heard the truck stop and start a few times and stood in the road so he would have to stop when he got to me. I asked him about the package for my address. He just looked at me and reached across to the passenger side under the dashboard and pulled out my box. I asked him why he tagged it delivered when it wasn't. He said he could not find my unit number (all the houses have numbers prominently above the front doors). I asked him why he couldn't find mine when I heard at least 4 stops that he seemed to have found. He just hit the gas and left. My thought is he saw Nikon and figured he could get some free stuff, not knowing I was the rare person that was home and waiting.

Maybe not all porch thieves are out looking for opportunity, sometimes they might drive the truck.

Happens all the time and you should call UPS and let them know . He might get fired if they find more packages on his route like yours. Better yet if the do find that out they may call in johnny law and have him busted for theft. UPS doesn't like dishonest drivers and really wants to know about it. As for his name they know which driver and truck the package was on it is in their computer already. I would have called them after you got your package but that is me. I have a criminal justice degree and years ago worked in enforcement. I hope it don't happen again to you. Those drivers can be thiefs but that gives the good ones who may outnumber the bad ones bad names.

Too often, unfortunately, you can bet on that. Glad you got your stuff, but, you should have turned his ass in. I would be willing to bet he has a few undelivered "deliveries" on his record.

Interesting story...best to report it - show them a photo of your front porch with the prominent unit numbers. If there is a string of complaints on his route, they will open an investigation. OTOH, he would be foolish to risk his livelihood even on the most expensive Nikon, but if someone is desperate enough, and they think they will get away with it, they will certainly do it. It might be time to put cams on trucks, and RFID tags on or in the packages.

Follow up: UPS emailed me back and requested my tracking number, which I sent them.
They responded with a thank you, we'll investigate.

Whether you like Nikon or not, why should you abridge someone's freedom to make a choice with a statement like that.

My husband and I had this very problem TWICE. The delivery was being made to a well-marked, place of employment, District Court House in our small town. There is no mistaking finding it. However, it was marked: Delivered. Upon calling, excuse was: Could not locate address!

I have high respect for these hardworking gents and ladies. It only takes a few to ruin the reputation for many.

Our solution: Have unit delivered to the nearest FedEx or UPS Store directly and have it held until you can pick it up. This presented no issues.

Yes: "Our solution: Have unit delivered to the nearest FedEx or UPS Store directly and have it held until you can pick it up. "

Amazon.com has a similar offering for delivery of purchased items.

So many of the bricks-and-mortar-stores have closed.....and those of us in the boonies have no choice but to mail-order....even the nearest one to me (2.5 hrs away) has a limited selection of cameras & lenses.Internet availability ha certainly contributed to the demise of the bricks & mortar stores....and it's not done yet....
