It really amazes me after shooting as an amateur and professional for over 35 plus years that we have the questions as to what is the best camera between the virtual Nikon vs Canon war, the best lenses, etc. I agree as others have said it is about the photographer and how good he is. The lowest cameras on the Nikon or Canon line can take top quality photographs that is often proven on the contests. But what really drives me wild is when someone with evident lack of much photography experience has to buy the best camera in the line and thinks it will make he a better photographer when he lacks the very basics of lighting and composition. No camera or lens can fix that correctly. I always tell anyone buying a camera to start out with a beginner camera AND once they can master that camera's capabilities then move up if you need to get other benefits like larger pixels, faster speeds, better sensitivity, etc. If not don't wast the money unless you want to impress your friends with your money only for them to see you not progress past the auto mode on the camera. Impress with the photos not the camera.

I can tell you all that nikon b500 coolpix is a 300 dollar joke. I know to many of you pros, 300 is nothing, but as a first time buyer of a camera that costs more than 50 bucks. What a major dissapointment. The b500 is horrible and nikon should be ashamed to have it or any like it on the market. Nikon sucks.

If that was your goal, you have been successful. Nothing of benefit has resulted from this discussion.

You are right, the more pro and knowledgeable one is the more likely they use Canon equipment.

Point taken, Canon Lee, but Nikon's 800MM tele lens has a fluorite element in it and it went into outer space.

i believe the Canon big telephotos are the go to lens for high end sports photography. I do see more Canon's on video shoots
and in a studio I was in the other day. Remember Canon is really in the photography, video equipment (like the C500 series ) and
their lens are used in cinema shoots. The whole video movement with DSLR's started with he Canon's.
Nikon does make other lens products but is not a major supplier like Canon.

I think I see more Nikon entry level cameras out there, but that would be about it.
When it comes to having a real grasp on elements of exposure; shutterspeed, aperture and ISO and how those affect the image, MOST photographers, regardless of camera brand even those that take some pretty good shots here and there, I know don't know their f-stop from a hole in the ground. Clueless. They just don't understand the basics.
The exception would be those who started using a fully manual camera and preferably processed their own film and I only know one guy other than myself who did that.

The same thing was going on in the fifties and sixties etc , with cars, my Chevy is better than your ford ,the fuel for that
Is there was no competition hardly , you heard it every day in school , on the street ,but you never hear it today ,
The difference is that there is only four contenders worth considering, Nik, Can, Olmp, Pentax,, if there ever is the choice
Equal to that of car brands , all that mine is better than yours will be history
