Wasn't it once called the Miss America BEAUTY Pageant? Heaven forbid we display the 0.001% of women who have perfect looks because it sets too high a standard for remaining 99.999%, possibly hurting their fragile self-esteem. On the other hand, contest participants are all in extremely good health, eat wisely and maintain a physically healthy lifestyle so maybe it's not too bad an ideal to set for the rest of the women (and men, for that matter). There are plenty of apparel choices other than a skimpy bikini to demonstrate the contestants' physical condition and looks but because we're all petrified of not being 100% PC, we instead eliminate any meaningful standards we can't all achieve eating junk food sitting in front of the TV. As several UHHers noted, the real problem is that this event simply isn't relevant anymore and making it less objectionable from a PC point of view isn't going to save it from declining viewers.

Here's innocent--the first Miss America swimsuit competition.

While there is more important news going on in the world, a recent announcment came stating that the Miss America contest is eliminating the swimsuit competition so that more attention is paid to the entrants' brains and character than their beauty. Poor move, IMHO. While the contestants are given every opportunity to showcase their intelligence, personality, and character, it has always been, in large part, a beauty contest. Eliminating the swimsuits in this pageant is like getting rid of fighting in the NHL. Any thoughts on this trivial matter?

I married my wife because I thought she was attractive and beautiful. Admit it women are a creature of beauty and yes they are more than that but they can be both. Men on the other hand... And they want eliminate a sought after part because some women feel that they have been taken advantage of. Harvey Weinstein's problems keep showing up and has dubious consequences. But I guess we could make it a contest where they are like a bunch of old hags, brains but no beauty but they will not have an audience. Women adorn themselves with makeup, jewelry, hairstyles, for what purpose? So we can see their brains. So let's just eliminate all beauty from our lives, it will be so much more enjoyable (sarc). Not to mention it will be so much cheaper. At a woodworking shop a while back, it was located next to beauty parlor (imagine that name) the men would look out the window at some of the women, as beautiful as they were, but would comment, I cannot afford that kind of woman. But beauty does have it purposes.
I wish it would just go away and die!
As it is said "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder".
Also by the way,
I think the Miss Universe Contest is rigged.

And there are places in the world today where wearing those garments would get them flogged or stoned for indecent exposure
Can someone please tell me why there has to be a Miss Black America since women of color have been winning Miss America for years now? To my knowledge, a Caucasian woman cannot even enter the Miss Black America pagent. That sounds like a racist contest to me.

No swim suits ? Soon the pageant will have quotas to address diversity and transgender issues etc etc
Mayor DeBlasio calling NYC elite High Schools racist . Quotas for air traffic controllers . Climate change etc etc etc
It’s the way Leftists stay in power , by immersing themselves into every aspect of our lives through rhetoric and emotion and ultimately by intimidation . Look at the millennials today , or most of them . Emotional basket cases driven by radicalism and agendas designed to increase governmental controls .
Isn’t wearing a swimsuit an innocent thing ? Where are we heading ?

Here is one for you. I know that yours was a joke but...
Years ago when we lived in Vegas we had some friends that were big into this kind of thing and they daughter had won Miss Nevada. And upon attending the Miss America contest there were all kinds of rumours of a Black Miss America and by golly the very next year there was the first Miss America who was black. Coincidence?

You don’t think the removal of swimsuits is political ?
Let’s hear your explanation on this one .

Maybe in an appropriate forum section. You could have stated that you believe it is political without being political. Don't bother with your explanation of why you chose to break forum rules.

Yes, and how do they compare with these on the innocence scale? Some might say that the Miss America contest is just a tits and ass competition with fake smiles and puerile answers to questions. Eliminating the swimsuit portion is just hypocrisy.

Don’t bother ?
Who the hell are you to challenge me and then tell me not to respond ?
This is general chit chat . Any topic goes . It’s a non-photography section .
I didn’t make a statement like this in any other section . Nor would I .
Perhaps the real reason you are disturbed by my observation is that you disagree with my political beliefs ?
Just say so then .
Disagreement is a good thing .
Have a great day 😃
