Coming down should only be a problem when there is ice and snow on the ground.

Au contraire, esteemed Mangle! When there's snow and ice, coming down is much, much easier. And a whole lot faster, too.

Let me tell you about the first time I went skiing. No, you really don't want to hear about that. "f/8 and be somewhere else," sez I.

You're too kind, Mike. Fact is, however, I'm a master only to the ants that are currently plaguing me. And without regard to the drums of chemicals I've sprayed around here and/or the exorcisms, séances, and shamanic drum ceremonies I've had performed to try to rid them, I'm actually just their slave. Control Z doesn't even work!

Cany143...l think these are beautiful shots. #1 was probably on a slight grade...dropping to the right. The tree is vertical, but it still feels like the horizon is slightly off...I'm sure that's just the visual impression, and there is no true horizon because of the mountains in the distance. Interesting question...when there is a very slight slant of the hillside one way or the other, should you correct that at all? I find your shots very nice, though. The skies and clouds are dramatic. No criticism intended.

Excellent use of light. The tilt in #! looks to be more of a natural terrain tilt IMHO.

There is indeed a slight downgrade in the land, falling to the right (or south); its just the lay of the land in that particular place. Could it be corrected? Sure, piece of cake. Should it be corrected? That's up for grabs. People go on and on about what and where and how the eye travels in an image, and there's no harm in that. But there's something to be said about how quickly the mind overrides the eye when it comes to the cockeyed or the irregular or the seemingly wrong or out of place, too, however slight or subtle that might be. Not that any consideration of that research went into any of these pickshurs, mind you. And no criticism taken, either.

I know just what you mean. I was reading a photo book just the other day that said that a 20%-30% tilt will be less distracting than a 2%-5% tilt. The larger tilt is assumed to be intentional while the smaller tilt is assumed to be photographer error. After looking a bit more at #1, I think I'd have done what you did...because of that vertical tree...but it is a close call.

Wonderful pictures! Probably about as close as I'll ever get to the desert.

Cany, I always look forward to your photos from one of my favorite parts of the US. Your captures are consistently magnificent and bring back such fond memories for me, from last year and the year before. What I look for as well is your "uncanny" humor, it makes me laugh and that enhances your photos even more.
