Strange. In my local area UPS has a reputation for loosing/damaging things and then not processing any claims for those shipments. They tell you the claim will take several weeks to process. After the alotted time you call to inquire about your claim and they tell you they have nothing on file about it, and it's too late to file a claim at that point. Depending on the size of the item, FedEx or USPS seem to be the preferred choices.

Jerry, I agree and sympathize with your problem. The main thing that I HATE about FedEx (and sometimes UPS) is their sending some packages to the "nearest FedEx depot (Tampa and I live in Clearwater) then it gets dumped into the US Postal system for "final delivery". Our US Postal employee would have to gain about 400 points in IQ to be readable. I've had packages from B&H delivered to businesses 2 miles away rather than to my house.. (the business opened the package and fortunately mailed it to me and I got it 3 weeks later). The sad thing is that I am a 20 minute drive from the FedEx main center in Tampa and there are 3 FedEx offices for shipping and receiving within 5 miles of my house. Also, when searching for the package, FedEx in Tampa gave me a phone number of the "local post office to search for misdirected packages" and it required a pin number after being answered. B&H was nice enough to offer to reship the several hundred dollars worth of filters.. but by then I had received the "original" package re-mailed by the local business (on their dime). Now I instruct my vendors to ship everything UPS Express and "DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES" ship it in anyway that may cause it to go to a US Post Office.

This is a service that both UPS and FedEx offer the shipper where the "last mile" of the delivery is handled by USPS. But it is not an arbitrary decision made by either carrier to route your package in this manner; that was up to the shipper.

Don't deliver on weekends - here they are closed on Monday too. By the time you get it, it should be tuned and broken in. I would feel sorry for you but if I remember correctly, you may just have a spare one to use until it gets there!

Throughout my career, as an employee and business owner, I used Fedex to send documents, and merchandise world wide. I routinely used Fedex to send payments, tickets, passports and visas. In all the years I used them, for thousands of shipments, there was exactly one shipement lost and one not delivered within the time Fedex said it would. From where I sit, it’s a shame more businesses and our government at all levels, don’t function as well as Fedex. We would all be better off.

Yes I realized "after the fact" that I should have paid the "extra" for FedEx or UPS ONLY handling rather than the "default". However... you WOULD expect FedEx to care about how "THEIR" customers are being treated by "Their Agent" the USPS. After all it is their reputation and not that of the USPS, which is already in a huge dumpster fire.

I have been building My own computers and ordering parts from all over the country for years. I have used FedEx, UPS, and the Post Office with out any problems at all: knock on wood! It sounds like some of You are in locations where You are experiencing problems caused by bad supervisory personnel. Then again Jerry, it seems like You have a new problem everyday. Computers not working, certain keys on Your keyboard not working, on thing after another - - - - I'm just saying. Better make sure You aren't causing a lot of Your own problems.

Fedex handing a shipment over to the USPS isn’t a default method of delivery, it has to be selected by the shipper.

I understand that, but the shipper does (generally) require that the customer pay "extra" (meaning that the default is "free" shipping via FedEx or UPS then USPS) to get FedEx or UPS to the door. Usually, UPS or FedEx to the door is 3 day or next day delivery. And slow boat is USPS only and free is FedEx or UPS to USPS and then delivery. I've elected for forgo the "free" shipping and pay for 3day or next day and keep the USPS out of the equation. It's just my personal feelings. I'm sure that somewhere in America there is actually a postman that earns his/her pay. One of the US Postmen in Dunedin takes his 2.5 hour lunch break everyday at Hammock Park. He even backs his USPS delivery vehicle into a handicap space in their parking lot while he naps. I gave him a hard time once and his response was, "go the *&^&*() away and mind your own business!" I pointed out that since he is (technically even though the Post Office claims that they aren't) a government employee and I am a tax payer... what he does while on the clock is my business.

Be careful what you wish for. If FedEx and UPS merged, you might end up with Fed Up!

Where I am UPS drivers are UPS employees while Fedex employees are either owner/operators or employees of a private owner. Very different attitude.

I wish UPS would take over FedEx. Every time I have had a problem with a delivery, it has been with FedEx. I was expecting a package yesterday, and it needed a signature. Since I was going to be away all day, I requested that it be sent to a local Walgreen's - something FedEx does. I got an email confirming the change, and another saying it was on the truck and out for delivery yesterday. When I went to Walgreen's later in the day, the package wan't there, and they said there were no deliveries on weekends. Going back to the email, it still said it was on the truck for delivery. However, looking more closely, I saw in small, light print, "Delivery on the next business day." They deliver to houses on Weekends, but not to Walgreen's, even though it was on the truck. A three-day delivery will become five or six days. In the future, I'm going to request UPS delivery.

On a more positive note, I ordered a ukulele from Japan. Within one day it went from the shipper to Tokyo, then overnight to NYC. There could be a delay in customs, but still, that's pretty fast.

The only problems I've had with delivery has been with FedEx, twice, and they lied to me.

Every four weeks I have to get medication delivered to me that requires a signature. I always specify UPS because I know they will deliver within a half hour of the specified time. FED EX requires me to hang around a whole day waiting for delivery. UPS is a no brainer.
