Rumor: Mitt Romney, as many folks know, is a Mormon and someone leaked that if he wins the Presidency, one of his first Executive Orders would be to legitimize the practice of Polygamy throughout the land! The irony of this of course is that if voters believe this rumor to be true, more than likely you will see all the left wing liberal Democrats voting for Romney, and all the born again Christian religious right wing Republicans voting for Obama! What an exciting election coming up! ;)

Romney's chance of even wanting to legitimize polygamy is zero. I have wondered, however, what right the government has to decide for anyone, male or female, how many formal mates to have.

I don't think the government has any "rights" except what is allowed them by the constitution;which is the people.Of course, now I'm just dreaming.

phcann you didn't say anything about voting for who you thought was best, you said you won't vote. If you fought in Vietnam and cherish your vote why would you not vote? I could vote for someone who is not on the ballot that I think would be a better President but that would be the same as not voting so I have to vote for someone who has at least a chance of wining and there will only be two on the ballot that fit that description. Although neither would have been my choice!

And where did voting for Ross Perot get us?

I used to feel the same way you do, but finally concluded that the difference between Republicans and Democrats is way too small. Both of them serve mostly their main corporate sponsors while at most throwing a few bones to the little people. That is why from now on I will vote for the best candidate, even if he/she currently has little chance of winning. Perhaps if all of us felt that way we might finally end the deadly Republicratic monopoly over American politics.

Utterly false. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints supports a constitutional amendment defining marriage as being between one man and one woman. Polygamy ended in 1890. Anyone who even dabbles in it today is excommunicated.

Marriage is, at least for the most part, controlled by state law, not federal. So, if Romney were to issue such an executive order, it would have no application in the states. Maybe in DC or on military bases, but I doubt even that would hold up. But Romney isn't that stupid, and the mere suggestion that he is is insulting.

I think Romney has been on both sides of every issue, if not more sides than that. But this kind of rumor is ridiculous and pointless. And, if that kind of rumor is being passed around about either candidate - and there have been plenty - it doesn't belong here. Or maybe we need a special topic here on General Chit-Chat:

Voting for the "best candidate" will almost always result in electing the worst candidate. Your "principled" decision will not help the nation.

That has no impact on me as I am not a Romney supporter.

Oh and your way works better? Look around, This nation is not in such great shape in fact it is a total wreck! We need to change something soon, or for that matter it may be too late. At least PNagy is attempting to make a decision based on some thought rather than just attempting to back a "winner" right now we the American public are the losers.

That's like the old saw:

What is bigamy? Having one wife too many.

What is monogamy? Same thing.

Yep, my position too. I quit voting for the lesser of two evils long long ago beause I was still voting for evil. I never vote against a candidate. If I can't in good conscience vote for someone on the ballot I abstain or write in. In most cases, a vote for either of the two main party candidates is merely selecting one head of the two head fascist snake that has been in control since Lincoln's election. Before someone takes that as a racist comment you had better check history.

Your way is like the person on the highway that proceeds into a dangerous situation because they have the right of way. Often, they are right, "Dead Right!".
