I was just wondering how many on this forum use old equipment for they hobby. I found if I buy older equipment I can save a ton of money and have just as much fun as if I purchased the latest gear. I love shooting birds and other animals but the latest gear would cost me 10,000 dollars. I use a used nikon D3 and a sigma 500mm f4.5 prime and together it cost less then the tax on a new setup. Just something to think about.

I started photography 70years ago when i was 10years old, my teacher was a man who ran my local Boy's Club. he told us that a real photographer could take a good photo with only a cardbourd box with a hole in it. He showed us how to make one, and that was my first camera, and i have been doing photography ever since. It's not what you use, it's how you use it.
Regards, Alfie.

I recently began acquiring vintage M-42 screw mount lenses of various brands to play with on my Fuji X-T1. I presently have four. I'm finding it to be a lot of fun.

I have two Pentax cameras - a 'Super Program' that I purchased in 1983, and a more recent K-30. They share lenses, including a 'Mir' and several 'Super Takumar' M42-mount lenses. Some times I forget which lenses are old ..... until they don't AF on the K-30.

I wish I can afford the D3.

If I am supposed to make photos on demand and be paid, I use my Canon EOS-6D and some L lenses and a Sigma ART 85/1.4. However, when I shoot for my own pleasure I love my Canon EOS-1D Mk. II N. It is heavy ("Newtonian Image Stabilization") and it is very nice to work with. Probably the same feel as the Nikon 3D. It is fast like a Kalashnikov. I can shoot funny dogs and cute cats very fast. It is perfect for Street. I normally use a cheap, but rather good, Tamron 18-200 mm Asph. When the 1D was new, it was around 4,000 dollars. I paid ZERO! I got it when I turned 70 from a good friends who had two more 1D bodies. The lens was USD 110 at B&H. I used the 1D body for exhibition pictures, but then I had the Sigma 85/1.4 Art attached. The 8.2 MPix are good enuff for a 12"x16" print. Here the lens sets the overall quality. Not the Mpix number... Pity I cannot show a big print from that camera here. I use an EPSON P-600 printer that takes up to A3+
