I really enjoyed your pictures. To me, they do capture some of what must be "the feeling of that place". They look like they were taken during the summer dry season. I grew up not far north of there (Roseburg area) and did some farm/ranch work on summer school breaks. But the pictures I relate to most are the ones with the split rail fence, since I spent some hot summer hours splitting rails to keep my in-laws' fence in good repair, over in Central Oregon. Nice work!
Ahhh...you DO get it don't you ptk. Thank you for your response. That is what I was trying to do, to see if anyone else felt the same about things that mean a lot to me. Remember the smell of hot pine needles in the sun in a Ponderosa/Jefferey pine forest...a Stellar BlueJay squawking or a big buck standing looking at you. The quietness of the woods. The peace and then remembering the old ones who lived here before us...looking at their handiwork left behind in the homes & barns & fences & wagons built from what was lying at hand. The hard work & sweat & thought that went into what they built. The successes & failures, I just want to note it, say thank you, tip my hat to them in acknowledgement & try & keep those old values & traditions alive.
Yes these pics were in later Summer or August up around 5-6000 ft elevation. I'd have to check for exact times & it was late afternoon. LOL...sounds like you know exactly what they went through building & keeping those fences in repair! Glad to hear it & thank you very much. We go through Roseburg fairly often visiting the grandkids in Eugene,
