An Oregon Cattle Ranch

We ran across this real Western Cattle Ranch here in Oregon a couple years ago. Drove up to check it out but no one was home. They do weddings & shindigs etc. so there are lots of accommodations for public reservation & use, camping trail rides, etc. but it still is a going concern in the cattle business.

We waited for the owners to show up but never did see anyone. So we poked around a bit in the late evening...it was an almost mystical feeling of going back in time. Just enough modern intrusions here & there to keep us grounded in reality however. We had a couple of hours here all by ourselves & did enjoy the peace & solitude & imagined the pioneer/settler/rancher days when this was established. I thought of the multiple generations that lived, loved & died here. We saw a few gravesites even. We felt welcome even though the hosts were absent & took care to not disturb a thing beyond leaving our tracks in the dust. I felt a tie to the trusting family that lived in the beautiful old ranch house so was very careful to respect everything we encountered. This was a fine example of the early part of American way of living that means so much to me personally & to the world as a whole.

Enjoy the pics...just something that moved me and stirred a longing for the "old" days...

Hi Terry, close but it is in Southern Oregon east of Ashland. Beautiful country isn't it? Shhh ...don't tell anybody. ☺ Walt

Thank you Eurobird! It really is! I hope the family never sells it & it never gets developed! We went there shortly after these pics for a wedding & the family treated us like special old time friends! I need to go back NOW & see it all green! Hmmm...maybe today!

I really enjoyed this series. It looks like a very serene and interesting place to visit. My favorites are the last two. The old wagon immediately catches your attention but the brighter sunlit areas behind it tend to draw your further into the scene. Also the lighting gives a very serene, gentle feel to the scene. The final shot is beautifully composed and the early morning light on the front of the house adds dimension. Very appealing!

Thank you so much Carolina. I have a special love for the Old West I guess because I was raised when they were our heroes & all our movies were Westerns it seemed. LOl....Roy Rogers, The King of The Cowboys!

Thanks for your nice comment! You explain why I liked them too... in details I don't always know, just feel. Yes the lighting was absolutely exquisite, I wish everyone could see it like it was.

Great set, and it looks like it would be a fun place to visit. I really like the wagon in the mist. It is like a time capsule.

Thank you Jan for your kind words! We were so glad to have it 100% all to ourselves too! A place of History with roots.
