Hope your taking pictures at the game doesn't interfere with other paying attendees ability to watch and enjoy the game. I sat by a real creep who had what looked like a Nikon 200mm zoom taking pictures. It was all about him, no consideration to any one else. The person was standing, fidgeting with equipment, disrupting others ability to enjoy the game. At one point they unfolded a tripod - blocking others view to meet his selfish need. So if you take your camera, don't be a creep.....

I have every intention of being considerate to all other fans, hence my question about focal lengths/options shooting from my seat, while sitting. I've talked to stadium staff on the phone and believe I'm well versed in their expectations of photographer behavior. I've been going to Giants games since they left Brooklyn & played in Seals' stadium as a child. I watched Candlestick being built and attended untold games there with my folks. We were at the first game played in that park in 1960 against the Cards. I've held season tickets to our nearby minor league team in Oregon for years so think I'm well versed in ballpark etiquette. I will be well disciplined, not to worry.

I tend to avoid such inquiries but now could use some suggestions if anyone has such experience. I will be in SFO and going to a Giants/Dodgers game. Our seats are a little bit down the line from the end of the Giants dugout and in the field level section. I have a couple of body choices and am wondering about lens selection. A ff dslr or a high quality micro 4/3 are my choices. I have a choice between a ff 300mm & 1.4 tc or a 4/3 40/150 & ability to use the in body 2X tc. I would hope to get some decent shots of players in action. Opinions welcome.

Forget messing with a camera at a MLB ballgame. You will annoy people around you. The pics are of of no value and no one is going to want to view them. Just enjoy the game.

I understand the sentiment but not going to happen. I intend to do no more during the game than to shoot some frames while seated without standing nor leaning into anyone's view. The real purpose of the trip is to take my older sister, who is partially disabled and uses a wheel chair for such outings. We grew up up in the area as our Dad was stationed at the Presidio in the late 50's & early 60's. My sis went to college at U of SF & never left the city. She has made me more scrapbooks and gifts about Giants goings on and games than I can count. She saved & booked every newspaper article for the entire post season and World Series in 2010, their first championship in our times. She continues to send me various books and what not about the team & players. She can tell you the birthweight of Willie McKovey's children. So I owe her. Most of my photos will be before and after the game around the area & in the park featuring her & our baby sister at the venue. She is retiring the day before the game after 40 years working for the SF Opera Company so it's a big deal/weekend for her. I will be respectful of others but this is going to happen. Stadium staff have discussed this with me by phone and have not objected to my intent.

Stadium camera rules

"Still and video cameras are permitted in Dodger Stadium provided that they are for personal use only. Taking photos or video taping any game action is prohibited. Fans may not block aisles or obstruct the view of others and professional photographic tools (such as tripods, telephoto lenses, etc.) are not permitted in the stadium."

Don't know how strict they are, but I would take a compact looking lens.

The game is in SFO not LA. I've read the Giants rules and spoken on the phone with them. I will not be in violation of any of their regs. Apparently each park is free to set their own regs and may strictly follow the MLB regs or modify them as they wish.

Sorry, I looked at the Doger's rules. The Giant's rules do seem more relaxed.

I'm going to be in D.C. in late May when the Dodgers are in town and for the Saturday night game, I splurged and got a ticket in the front row, just left of the Dodgers dugout. I've brought a Canon SLR1/Tamron 16-300 combination into many games as a fan without problem, but for this one am planning to bring a 7D MII. Will I have a problem bringing it in a mid-size shoulder bag?

First, you better call Dodger stadium and see what's allowed. Many sports venues are becoming more and more strict as to what cameras you can bring in. If they think your camera looks too professional, they will not allow you in with it. You'll have to walk all the way back to your car and stow it for the game. That said, you'd be better off bringing in the smallest camera you have like the micro 4/3 one. Good luck and have fun.

Contact the home team's stadium about restrictions. There are general MLB regs but each park can have different rules.

Check the stadium in DC for that.

If you have folks sitting in front of you a long lens is no good cause you'll infringe on their space. I used to take my Nikon 500 mm f8 mirror lens and got great shots.
Call the clubhouse ahead and see what you are allowed. Next time get front row seats in whatever section your going to sit in, then, no problems.

The game is in SFO not LA & I've been over their rules with AT&T park officials. I will not violate them as I won't have a car. I am flying to SFO & getting to the park by cab so no place to stash anything.
