Great photos both, but the B&W has that Ansel Adams look to it, dramatic and high contrast, very nice indeed!

I agree, B&W is better. Maybe we're so used to Ansel Adams?

I think you have something there.

I'm not sure it's because he set the standard, but he has defined our expectations.

I like both shots although I do favor the B&W.

Definitely B&W. Someone here asked "why B&W if you have color". This shot answers that question.

Nice shots and I agree that there is something about Yosemite valley that lends itself to B & W. If someone agrees with the premise, is there an explanation why?

Inspired by Ansel Adams?😁

Beautiful, prefer the b&w. I have a glass plate negative from around 1900. not much changed.

They are both nice but the B&W really makes you take notice. Much more attention getting I think.

Nice work bringing out the contrasting shades in the rock faces--that really makes the BW a dramatic photo! To me the BW is more dramatic, the color more relaxing. Some days I need the "relaxing" but most of the time I want the drama of the BW.

You don't have to twist my arm to enjoy the B&W! Lovely! Had the same thoughts about my pics when I was there. Some folks don't see the point of B&W (one recent debate went on for 23 pages here, and proved nothing other than that opinions differ, and there's little point trying to change 'em), but I'm happy to be a convert--at least for appropriate subjects. Thanks for sharing both.

I have always liked black and white, and part of that is how it brings out different contrasts and shapes better than color. Also it can set a different mood, and add drama of course. And yes, there is the Ansel Adams element. However, whenever I see a striking image in black and white it just feels pure and elemental. Hard to explain. Kind of like listening to Pearl Jam Unplugged, driving a manual transmission car, or eating a bone-in ribeye rare with no sauce of marinade of any kind.

I got into photography back in the middle fifty’s with a Kodak Brownie 127 in a kit it had three trays, contact printer, chemicals, red safelight I was hooked on the magic of black and white photography I believe I was 8 or 9 years old. What a wonderful thing it was and still it is today at 74 years old!

The reason the B&W is better at Yosemite is GRANITE ! Yosemite is all about the amazing granite cathedral that is so impressive and the B&W brings out the beautiful contrasts and large grey scale that makes up the rocks.
One of my favorite spots on the planet !
