Yes - it is quite satisfying to be able to write the story behind some of our photos - true most photos do tell their own story but at times we need to tell 'the rest" of the story and then there are stories that I write for the family of times gone by of our family's experiences.

You really said it well.

In addition to photography, you also have the gift of writing.

What I love about this hobby-
GAS- getting new stuff is always fun!
Playing- The mechanics of all of this is fun for me; camera gear, the computer and framed photos.

I got my first adjustable camera in 1979. Including that one, I am now using my ninth primary camera {eighth 'unique' one - when my Canon Rebel unexpectedly died, I purchased an identical one, which then unexpectedly died}; that is an average of just over four years per camera. I have been disappointed by several digital cameras, including that second Rebel .... my film cameras averaged over five years. I don't enjoy shopping for new cameras and learning to use them - I enjoy using the cameras I'm already comfortable with.

I came into DSLR photography on a shoe string budget - bought a Rebel Xt body and a couple adapters to us "old" canon FD lens - that is still working- was given a used Rebel Xti kit with 18-55 and 100-300 lens - still works great - bought a used Rebel T3i body for the LCD and it works great - except I just for out the digital zoom does not work in "Movie" mode - Oh - I recently had my lens updated by my son-in-law to a Tamron 18-200 with IS -darn happy with this assembly of "Older" Canon gear.

You live in a beautiful part of the country, my thought is you want photos for your wall ? look for an old 24-105 IS , sometimes you can find them cheap. It fits the Rebel XTI and will also fit a full frame. When I got my XTI my son bought it for me, as I was working on a small budget, still am. It's a great lens and will serve you well.

I don't print many photos - I belong to several different types of camera groups and post photos to show my results in all beside Email to family and friends. As I now have that new 18-200 w/IS I am quite sure it will be improving my images captured with my kit lens - spring is finally here and I'll be out and about looking for photo ops. - Not that I am not everwithout a camera at any time.

Learning- The internet is an incredible gift in this regard.
Shooting- For me it is the same as fishing and golf ; even if you get the big one or the hole–in-one, you can’t wait to get out there to get the next one.
Displaying- If you really like what you shot it can stir something inside.
Awareness- Being involved with groups and forums makes you so much more aware of art, nature, science, and diversity.

Who would add YAWN as a comment to resurrect a 2016 thread?

Some one who has not a clue of the joys of accomplishing a new and interesting phase of this wonderful hobby.
Today I used a new 160 bulb light ring, my 120 vlt camera power connecting, 2 sec timer for some macro tests using 2 reversed len a 28 mm and a 30-70 set at 30-50-70.

Here are some of my results. - Ya - some could use finer focus - next time I'll wear my glasses - LOL
