Sorry, this is a post without any pictures (what?), I know...... But I was taking out some trash, so I did not have a camera on me, when I noticed two big crows on a power pole and they were eyeballing a squirrel climbing another power pole not too far away. Then one of the crows did fly to the other pole and landed on the squirrel, killing it and taking off with it. The other crow did the same with yet another squirrel that was walking across the power line. I had no idea that crows were actually hunting other animals, I knew they were scavengers, but this was new to me!
Your shot is a little underexposed. ;-)
Ya, been there too many times with no camera. The one that got away.

YIKES! I’ve seen crows go after and kill other birds, but had no idea squirrels were on their menu.
Wow. Are you sure they weren't ravens? The crows around here don't seem big enough to lift a squirrel.

Never witnessed a crow kill anything, but I’ve seen them pick up English walnuts, from the grove, and fly high over the road to drop them so they would break open. I thought that was rather clever.

Crows have no natural enemies, they are very much carnivorous, they are the number one reason for the decline in songbirds in some areas. Crows raise their own fledgling by robbing songbird eggs and baby birds from their nest to feed to their own.

It was only a week ago I saw 2 crows chasing down a magpie, they disappeared with it to low level in the grass so I didn't see the outcome at Manston Airport Kent.
Crows only eat dead animals.

Sorry sir you are wrong, not only did I see the 2 crows a week ago, about 6 years ago while playing golf I saw 2 crows pull a large baby wood pigeon out of a tree and peck away at it there on the course.
Yep. They do that if there isn’t enough other food around.

That's why they kill them before they eat.
Guess I may have been mistaken, but I've never seen them killing other birds.
