I know that ravens will pick off baby chicks, so I have to keep them in a raven proof brood pen with their surrogate mama until they are big enough so the ravens won't mess with them.

For a first this morning, a crow swooped down about 20 yards from me for a small bird but he got away !

No, I saw one eating a squirrel after killing it, so that's not true (well, I guess by then it was dead), but that clearly showed, they are killing animals for food and not only eat already dead animals!

Out at Vandenberg AFB there are tons of ground squirrels, big blue herons patiently wait outside their holes, nail them with their beak and swallow them whole. I¡ve watched it happen, not a pretty sight😱
