There are two subjects, so show two subjects, #1 is the best, however why not let the buyer decide? Good shots ππππ
I think the first one is best because it shows the rider and horse in a great position going over the jump. The horse owner would agree!
I like the 1st one better but would erase the greenery on the lower right with some content-aware post processing.

As I was doing some post production work on this photo, I accidentally cropped it and saved it in the second photo's size. After looking at the photo both ways I was unable to decide which crop I liked the best. The first (original) shows off the rider and the horse's faces while the "accident" focuses in on the rider only. Most of the time whichever the viewer sees FIRST, they will go with that one. Having said that, will it influence you or not?! Which way do you prefer? Each of these are best viewed in download mode.

#1. Story
#2. Portrait, in a strange sort of way

Showjumping is about horse and rider. #2 misses the point. If you had to crop it at all I would crop off some of the bottom to turn into a landscape format with space for the horse to jump into. Square format is very static.
Great shot by the way.
I would RESPECTFULLY disagree with cropping the bottom, as you would lose the impact of the height of the jump. would extend the space on the left, though.
I like #2. #1 shows what is happening. #2 shows the determination, bond and grit between horse and rider.

Your whole equestrian series is just awesome Brent! Have to agree with most others that I would go with the first one but I would like it just as well if the right side was cropped to her boot just as well. That still gives the horse head room to finish the jump! I love the expression on the girls face too. Once again, wish it could be me!!!
I prefer not to crop the horseβs head!! But you should do what you like best.
#1 by a nose. With regard to #2, as a few others have pointed out, cutting off the horse's head looks awkward (to me). Might be improved by cropping even tighter, so that it becomes a portrait of determination.
Hey guys there is not a competition. the first one is a great photo period. T
I like #1 too as it doesn't cut off the horses head.

Agree with this assessment!
The first is the better image IMHO.
