I’ve read several reviews that say the Mark II has more noise and does not do as well in higher ISO than the 6D.

I was advised by a top Astro physicist that for AP the 6D was better than the 6Dmkii and would outperform the 5Dmkii

I just picked up a 6D in perfect condition with 2100 clicks for $600

I have plenty of respect for an astrophysicist, but that doesn’t mean they know anything about cameras.
This is an excerpt from a 6ll test by The Digital Picture, by me the BEST Canon tester alive today.
And though I’€™ve never held either camera, I’€™ve used a 5ll for 5 years. The 6ll was basically a stripped down 5ll. The 6ll is twice the camera either the 6l and 5ll were and the 5ll was amazing in its day!
Hopefully this will settle the noise comparison. It's€™ not a lot better but certainly not worse.
Maybe for Astro there is some specific reason though.

I’ve read that the dynamic range on the 6D ii isn’t great- how does everyone feel about the images they’ve gotten? I haven’t really considered the 5D IV because I don’t care much about video and don’t shoot sports anymore. I do a lot of pet photography, though, & I’m wondering now if that counts as sports, especially constantly reposing my Macaw & CAG who always seem to be on the move if I try to shoot them on my actual backdrop. Fast multifocus points & good low light performance is important to me. It’s really difficult for me to get images focused on animal’s eyes, especially with multiple animals in the portrait. Lighter weight is good too, as I have fairly severe issues with my hand and back. I’m torn- I already have the Nikon zoom & portrait lens, but I’ve never shot Nikon, and I started out with Canon, back when I shot 35mm B&W film in college.

OK, I used a 6D for over 4 years. When I decided to upgrade the manager (a friend) of my local camera store told me:
You can get the 6DII and it is a good solid upgrade over your 6D. Or you can get the 5DIV and go to a major upgrade in almost every way.
I loved my 6D, everyone I have run into with a 6DII loves it.
I went for the 5DIV just because I could afford it and figured at 72 it is likely to be my last FF upgrade. At the same time I swapped my 7DII for an 80D just for the f/8 focus improvement (27 points vs 1 point) because I almost always use my 100-400L with the 1.4x for birds and that requires f/8 AF. I may upgrade when the 7DIII comes out for my bird pictures, the 5DIV is for everything else and of course also does bird pics, just not as much reach as with an APS-C body. (Yes I know it is called a "crop sensor" for a reason and I can crop the 5DIV to get the same apparent "reach". But the fact remains that the APS-C puts more pixels on the same subject area at the same distance for finer detail-so long as the light is good enough.) Tomorrow and Sunday I am going to a Steam Punk event at the railroad museum I belong to. The 5DIV and 24-105L will be my choice with my 14 mm f/2.8 if I need to shoot inside the buildings in tight quarters.

I'm not going to say Nikon or Canon are better, I shoot both and I like both. This whole dynamic range thing is for the most part a topic pushed by the pixel peepers. There just isn't that big a difference that it truly matters, it's more of a numbers game than an actual image issue.
The 6D II has 45 cross type dual pixel auto focus so it's fast and accurate. It's got WIFI, NFC and Bluetooth and as far as I can tell its low light performance is as good as the 6D.

The 6D MK II is a good camera, but like most people here have said - it is really a matter of what your shooting, what you lenses you already have, and personal preference for the controls of the camera. I have the 6D MKII with Canon's 24-105 F4 II and it works great. I have rented the Sigma 24-105 for both Canon and Nikon (D750 & D810), but always ended up buying the manufacturer's standard zoom for both Canon and Nikon. The Sigma was slightly sharper in the center, but over the whole frame I found the OEM lenses to perform better overall and if your using the rule of thirds for composition... the center isn't always where sharpness matters most. Personally, I like Canon's on body controls better than Nikon's but that never stops me from using either body. As far as dynamic range (think Landscapes) if there is a shot that requires that I squeeze out every ounce of color, light, and shadow I normally bracket those shots anyway on either system and the dynamic range isn't an issue. Again, it all depends on what your shooting and your preferences- if you don't need the touch screen and updated focusing system the first generation 6D is a great option as is the D750. I don't have and haven't tested Sony full frame so can't speak to that.

I have two friends with 6d mk2's and they love them. I might add that they are taking great image with them. One just won an award and showing with an image she took.

On my 5d mk 4 I have a 24-105 II f4.0 lens and this would be a great "go to" lens for the 6d mk 2. It is the lens I use most of the time.

I bought the Canon 6DM2 back in late December with the 24-105 F4-F5.6 - it was a packaged deal and also got the Canon 50mm 1.8. I took all of them out for a day at the Dallas Arboretum this week and am very pleased with the results. Images were sharp and the colors great. As with any new camera I'm still getting familiar with all of the settings (there are a ton of them). Most of the photos I take are landscape so video was not a consideration. I've been using Canon for 40 years and have been very happy with the brand. I read about the dynamic range issue with Canon6DM2 but for me that was not a deal breaker, I think with Post Processing can help for most situations. Lenses are great and the camera is a work horse. I plan on getting the 70-200mm shortly and I should be set.

The camera gets 2 thumbs up from me.

I went from a 70D to a 6DMkII and so not regret it all all. Love full frame and love the features of the camera. I use the EF 24-105mm IS II USM and it makes a great general purpose lens. I would have like a little more reach say to 135mm. My #2 lens is the EF 70-200mm IS USM. I would have liked a 5DMkIV but the price was just too high. I am an avid amateur and this camera fits the bill for me. Some have mentioned the dynamic range, but I have not found that an issue. I do use Photoshop to enhanced the levels, contrast, exposure and color of the photos I take. I do not know how it compares to a Nikon as I have always used Canon systems. Good luck!

Does anyone here use the 6D Mark II? If so, how do you like it, and what are some good all-purpose zoom lenses? If I decide to go with it, I’ll start with one good zoom I can leave on most of the time and one good portrait lens, and build from there. I was also looking at Nikon D850 & have the zoom & portrait prime to go with it, but got screwed over by an Amazon 3rd Party seller who listed a used D850 around the price of the Canon I budgeted for, then never sent the camera. The Sony A7 riii was also in the running, but I’m afraid it’s out of my price range right now.

Have you taken your case to Amazon? If it was their third party seller I think they will get your issue rectified.

For what it’s worth... I went to my local camera store with a 6D and original 24-105 lens with the intent to trade both in and purchase the 6D II and new 24-105 lens. The owner told me to buy the new lens but not to upgrade the 6D. He said the 6D II was not a significant improvement over the original 6D, especially in dynamic range. I would consider that to be a pretty significant thing to consider considering he volunteerly lost a sale. That is why I buy from the local camera shop. Fully trustworthy.

I traded my 6D for the 6D2 last Christmas and absolutely love it so far. The articulated touch screen makes life so much easier that it's had to describe. It seems to be at least as good as the 6D in low light, and it shoots continous at a respectable rate. My go-to lens for it is a Tamron 24-70. I also have a Tamron 90 macro, a Canon 16-35 f/4, and a Canon 70-200 that I use occaisionally. The "nifty 50" sits home alone even tho it's a very sharp, even if cheap, lens.

Love my 6DII. I have the 24-105 Mk ii lens, and it stays on this camera all the time. I have the 7D II for wildlife/action shots. I think the noise issue is way over blown. The only time I have had a problem is if I have under exposed photos or (obviously) super high ISO shots. Once you have that fully articulating touch screen, it makes it hard to want a camera without it.
