Oh, what is the other lens you have on order yet?

The second lens is an AF-S Nikkor f/4 VR. Refurbished.

That will provide some reach.

Congrats! The fun starts! The depth of color and sharpness with the 24-70 2.8E is no less then superb. That normal zoom was made for the D850!

I moved up from a 3300 to a 7200 and thought I was doing good. Now I feel inept lol. Congrats, wish I could join the ranks of the 850 owners, military pensions just don't allow for that, someday. Enjoy!

You are doing “good.” If I don’t watch myself, I can wallow in the science of photography, but I’ve learned the real point is enjoying capturing moments I want to keep and re-experience over and over. I’m sure you’re doing that! BTW, thank you for your service!

I also get caught up in the gear as well as the science. Thats why I try and limit myself. Like I said, I have a Nikon 10-24, Nikon 35 prime, Tamron 24-70 (my favorite) and a Tamron 70-200. I figure I cover most things there. But I love the 35mm the most. That's why I have debated going to all primes but again, I have to watch myself.

I also prefer primes. However when doing an event it's hard not to have something like 70-200 or let's say... Sigma 120-300mm. Or SIGMA 14-24mm for indoor and architecture. All depends on your main focus in photography.

I am. Very complex reading I ordered a book to try to understand the application of the myriad of new settings.

Isn't that the truth!!

I hadn’t thought of that. I’ll order a bland strap. But isn’t the camera with its big honking lens a dead giveaway with it without the strap?

That was my same thought exactly!!! Who am I kidding that I don't have an expensive camera? That lens is honking. Which was a big surprise for this new to photography & new D850 owner. Silly me thought that the lens would be the same size a my Tamron 70-300 for my old D70. Just assumed it only went to 200 not 300 so it might even be smaller. You should have seen my face when the delivery truck arrived. We recently went to look at a property and took the D70 since I knew how to use it. The realtor was asking me all kinds of questions about my "nice camera". I had to laugh knowing the monster I was hiding at home ;).
