Is there a good but small P&S camera that has a viewfinder & a decently fast lens?
I want it for doing quick candid shots of moving stuff. I find I can be much faster with a viewfinder than I can with an LCD screen.
I have a Canon G11 that does a great job.

Look at the Canon G series. Some have viewfinders and also allow you to shoot in RAW or JPG. I have the G-15 which I use as a backup camera and when I don’t want to take my 5D IV. While I am thinking of adding a mirrorless to my collection, I will still hold on to and use the G-15 when appropriate.

The game's afoot!! Thanks to you two, I am definitely on the hunt for a Canon G series camera.
I will buy via internet so I won't be able to see the camera until it arrives here in Hawaii. In the meantime, could you folks give me the approximate dimensions of your respective Canon G series cameras? I am hoping that it will fit into a pocket.

G-series will not fit well.
From my journal:
My first digital camera (a slightly used Canon G-10 compact) was purchased on eBay in August of 2011, for the express purpose of "travel". At that time it was wonderful for that purpose.
Shortly thereafter, I purchased a used Canon S100, because the G-10 did not fit my pockets. The dreaded "Lens Error" (twice in two years) caused me to give it up for the Sony RX100III.
Sony RX100III purchased on eBay, May 6, 2016, to replace the defective Canon S100 pocket camera.
After trying to photograph flying grandkids, dogs, jet boats flying up the river, etc., with several compact and pocket cameras; in April of 2014, I purchased a "used" Sony Alpha a6000 for $400 and the previous semi-pro owner threw in an unused 16-50mm kit zoom (which I seldom use). That camera system captures almost anything that moves.
Sony a6000 was purchased (used) on April 29, 2014
Bellgamin - Aloha! Seriously consider the Fuji X100F compact. Lens is a very sharp 23mm (35mm field of view) very fast f/2.0. Offers both an optical and an electronic viewfinder. Many creative features. Highly rated and recommended. /Ralph

I would love to buy this but my hobby budget is just about tapped out from buying 3 great lens for my DSLR. Ergo I gotta stay at $500 or less, preferably less. 😥
Sony RX100 m3. B&H has them at a very reasonable price. Also has a tilt screen, very handy. Fit right in your pocket...

If you are looking st the $500 or less range you may want to look at a panasonic lx10. I have seen them in the range of just below to just above the $500 mark. Has a very fast lens. Or try a canon g9x mark ii which has a lens that is not as fast as the panasonic. Both have 1 inch sensors.
One of Panasonic Travel Zoom cameras should be the best choice, I use the TZ70 for this very reason.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100. Four-thirds sensor, Leica lens, viewfinder.
I love mine.

The Fujifilm X100F has a viewfinder that can be set to optical, electronic, or a hybrid combination of both. It has an APS-C sensor and a 23mm f/2 lens.
Search Google for pocket cameras 2018. Looks like Fuji has a nice one.

I have the Nikon Coolpix P900, which is an awesome camera. Even saw a YouTube video where a guy shot the planet Jupiter. At 2000mm (35mm equiv.), it is very versatile.
