The OP is looking for a SMALL camera. The Nikon P900 is not small.

I have the Nikon Coolpix P900, which is an awesome camera. Even saw a YouTube video where a guy shot the planet Jupiter. At 2000mm (35mm equiv.), it is very versatile.

Is there a good but small P&S camera that has a viewfinder & a decently fast lens?

I want it for doing quick candid shots of moving stuff. I find I can be much faster with a viewfinder than I can with an LCD screen.

It depends on what you need. The main determination of image quality is sensor size. 1/2.3 is typical for P&S types. 1 inch is better, Micro 4/3 beats that. While APS-C sensors are now available in fixed lens cameras, they are more expensive. 1/2.3 is more than adequate for social media, and anything displayed on a monitor. For greater detail or the ability to crop significantly larger is better.

The cheapest I have found using the 1/2.3 with a viewfinder is the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H400. (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1043888-REG/sony_cyber_shot_dsc_h400_digital_camera.html)
I own an older Canon SX50 HS which I love.

Refurbished is less expensive.

My purse camera is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS60 (18MP) that I love. Have been using it more than my Pentax K-50. Zooms from 24 to 720mm (eq 35 mm). The ZS100 has more MP (20) but zooms from 25 to 250 (35mm eq). Optical image stabilization with both. Will record in RAW. The ZS60 is a tiny bit lighter than the ZS100 and is slightly smaller in size. I would recommend either one. I am using a Go-Pro case for it as it fits perfectly. (removed a divider)

Wow! 83x optical zoom! How in the world can they do that? I thought tele lense had to get longer & longer as the mm increased... or else fold the length by using mirrors.

83x, huh? 😨 It must be a Klingon invention, delivered to Nikon by UFO.

But seriously, I wish I had seen your post re the P900 before I bought a Canon G15. Ah well, such is life tra la la. I shall put the P900 on my wish list for Christmas. Unless, of course, technology passes it by in the interim.

This thread has taught me a lot. I loooove this forum!

Regarding the Nikon P900 at 83X zoom.....most folks say it's almost impossible to use at the higher zooms without using a tripod. Glad you got a Canon G15. I think you will love it even though it's not a long zoom. Also the P900 is BIG in comparison to the G15. You wanted a smaller camera and the P900 is not.

You probably need to define a "decently fast lens" as that can be somewhat objective, bell. And how "small" is small? Pocket size?? As johneccles said, You might want to take a look at the Panasonic ZS50, 60, 70 models, which I think is the U.S. version of his referred TZ model. I have both the 50 and 60 and love them as a pocket sized camera with a decent lens reach (30x) and a viewfinder. I agree with you. I need a viewfinder on ANY camera I own!

Good luck with your choice and enjoy your decision!!
