First, try removing all cartridges, dampen a Qtip and move over the print heads, wait a few minutes, replace the cartridges and run the print head cleaning program again. This has always worked for me - so far. Also check Precision Colors for refillable ink. I've been using this ink for over a year now; the printer often sits 2-4- days without printing anything and I've not had any problems. Suggestion above was prior to Precision Colors, which was suggested by a fellow UHHer.

My use to be very fine Epson printer is clogged so I will try this. Thanks.

I have been using Canon printers for many years and should never have used non OEM ink. This is the second printer I've had to replace because non OEM ink ruined the print head (I'm a slow learner). I researched how to clean the print head and followed all the instructions and now a printed page comes out in PINK type! The black ink tanks are full, although the colors are low, so that doesn't explain why it doesn't print text in black. I ordered one set of Canon ink for a last ditch effort to resurrect this $60 printer.

I already have a Canon Pro 10 dedicated to picture printing, although I may occasionally print a picture on the all in one.

That being said, I could be swayed to switch brands for my office work printer. It needs to scan, copy, & print and not put me in the poor house buying ink!! I've even considered a color laser printer. Replacement toner cartridges cost more than the printer, but that is true for ink jet printers too. The difference is the number of times they need to be changed for best results.

I've looked at so many options that my head is spinning and would really like to hear what you all like.

I purchased a new printhead from China for my Canon printer for about $20 and it worked great.

I have an Epson EcoTank. Check Best Buy or the Epson site directly. These are large capacity 40ml color and 140ml black. Very reasonably priced. I have had my ET-4550 over 9 months now and still on the original inks. I have printed over 1000 color Post Cards as well as a hundred or more 5x7 and 8x10 color prints. Besides maybe 1000 type prints. Not museum quality prints but better than my 15 yr old Epson Styeist Photo printer. Or if you are a Canon fan, the also make a few "Ecotank" type printers.

PeterBergh said "Generally, a color laser is more expensive but the cost evens out since the toner cartridges last much longer than ink cartridges." I don't know where you are getting your comparison from, I use a colour laser and other inkjet printers. The replacement toners for the laser printer are massively more expensive than cartridges for inkjet printers. The 'page usage' quoted by the vendors are for text. It is still much more expensive to laser print. Once you start printing pictures/graphics the coverage per page rockets up and so does the cost.

Okay here we go. My Epson 7900 recently died due to use of an out-of-date ink cartridge (my bad). In searching for a replacement I decided on two printers:
1. Epson SureColor 7000 24" printer for my larger prints. I got a refurbished model and paid 50% of the current price with full manufacturer warranty and ability to buy extended warranty.
2. Epson Sure Color P-800 for smaller prints, greeting cards etc. This will handle up to 17" wide paper and has 7 ink cartridges, each 50 ml in size which adds some economy to ink purchases. This is the replacement for the 3880 and seems to be built like a tank.

I am happy with both but especially with the SC-P800.

As a B&W printer, I really like the Advanced Black and White printing in the Epson driver. This has made my ImagePrint RIP unnecessary.

If you are in warranty, then this voids any Epson responsibilities.

I had an HP 7180 for years-no upgrade for High Sierra so I bought an Envy 4520. Cheap. Ugh-slow, clunky, shut down between prints. Went to sleep and would not wake up. Two weeks and now I can’t seem to give it away. Bought a Canon TS 8020- works really slick for everyday use. We print and scan a lot. Plus it works with my new iMac. I have the Canon Pro 10 for my photos but the TS produces decent prints for other family members banned from the Pro.

I have been using a Brother MFC-L2700DW for a number of years. . .For an office printer, it is just about everything you cou ask for: Duplex B&W printing; FAX; e-mail; single or multiple copy feed. The paper tray holds about 250+ sheets. . .And, it will work with MAC or "Bill Gates" computers. It also gets 3K-5K copies per toner cartridge (I've actually gotten 6,000+ copies from a single cartridge). . And, a multi-pak of generic cartidges on Amazon are about $10-$11 per cartidge.

And, it has been trouble-free for over five years! And, the BEST recommendation I can give is backed up by Brother still offering this printer without needing to upgrade it!

It costs only $149. . .

What more needs to be said??!

I have always used refilled ink tanks from my supplier. The are not from Canon but are factory refilled using old ink tanks customers return as far as i know. Both my printers are canon. The only time I had any problems was when I left one printer print a large volume pf prints namely my Kawasaki Manual. Quite a few pages in the printer was jammed and I was not near it. I had work to do else where and when I returned it was really jammed up. That jam ruined the print head or at least the printer told me it did. I also had an old Epson that finally told me it needed to be returned to the factory for a rehab because it's parts were old. Yes the print out on my computer said that. So maybe like mine your printer has just bit the dust from age. All inks will eventually clog a print head. just some do it quicker than others. My go to for daily use is the CanonMP250 and I expect that one to quit eventually due to age.

I get it from my own experience. Admittedly, a sample of 1 is not statistically valid. Naetheless, I believe the conclusion I've drawn is valid.

Had Cannon Pixma pro 1000 tried aftermarket ink that led to the end of the printer. My new printer is Cannon pro 100. Not an all in one printer but boy the prints are amazing! I use an all in one printer on my other (pc) computer it is a brother and it was cheap but does a great job with all of my other needs. The Cannon i use only for printing prints. The cannon will only ever see Cannon ink and Cannon paper for best results.

I use an Epson R2880. It does a great job. It uses 8 separate ink cartridges (Still expensive) BUT prints on 13x19 paper. If you are going to do serious work, you should use a printer that at least can do 13x19.

I've always used HP and filled up the ink with Costco ink....just replaced a Officejet 6700 after little tiny gears fell out of the printer...with an HP Officejet 4655; $75 at Costco. The gears were so cute - I just couldn't figure out where they belonged!
