Starburst lillies, growing next to our house in a protected alcove with early morning sun hitting them.

Processed in Lr 5.7, then background darkened in NIK Viveza 2.

Nice job!

I have just finished a little processing this Dahlia that was one of bunch on the dining table.
Just a bit of crop and colour, light balance and sharpening.

Liked this one so much I made it a wallpaper for my computer. Added a vignette with Nik.

Here are a couple of mine. The first is an HDR; the second is lightly post-processed.

Flowers are the ideal subject with some major challenges. Harsh and uncontrolled light with even a slight breeze can play havoc on recording the image(s). But, sometimes everything falls into place, the stars are aligned just right and we capture a masterpiece in the making. Often, its in the post processing where the fun for many of us begins.

Show me your best captured flower image. Tell me what challenges you may have had in its recording and what you did, briefly, in PPing to create your final masterpiece.

I'll start you out. My image is my wife's calle lily. Fortunately, it was in a pot where I could move it to the best light with minimal breeze. In PPing I darkened the background and used some Nik filters to soften the image. The original is tack sharp, but I wanted my final image to be moody and dreamy. For me, I think I achieved what I intended do accomplish.

Now, show me yours.

This one presented some challenges. First of all, it was very tall but close to a building leaving me with very few places to stand while I got the shot. I watched the progress of the flower's opening for days and then hoped for the right amount of sun. Fortunately the background was in the shade, giving me the kind of contrast I wanted to make the flower "glow." Editing was from RAW with a vignette applied as a last step to further isolate the flower.

The second shot is taken from the shady side but with some dark trees in the distance. Once again, the sun is almost overhead creating some interesting shadow patterns and a glow to leaves and petals.

I don't think this is a great picture but I was pleased that it worked at all. I set out to find out if I could give this morning glory a black background in bright sunlight. It took a few tries. I closed down until it was so dark I could barely see the outline of the flower and used the on-camera flash. The flower was blown out, so I kept backing up until the flash didn't leave me with a pale blue and white flower and probably should have back up a bit more so the raindrop would show better. Then one day, when looking through old pictures, the words "blown out" came to mind again, so I did!

Lovely first photo and very creative second Jo. It's really fun to see what can happen with some of the editing tools.
