I took this California poppies with a 3.2 MP digital Olympus point and shoot. I bought it used on EBay for $75.00 and it lasted 5 years before it gave up the ghost. I laid on the ground and shot up into the trees and this was one of my earliest photos and one I am proud of.

Flowers are the ideal subject with some major challenges. Harsh and uncontrolled light with even a slight breeze can play havoc on recording the image(s). But, sometimes everything falls into place, the stars are aligned just right and we capture a masterpiece in the making. Often, its in the post processing where the fun for many of us begins.

Show me your best captured flower image. Tell me what challenges you may have had in its recording and what you did, briefly, in PPing to create your final masterpiece.

I'll start you out. My image is my wife's calle lily. Fortunately, it was in a pot where I could move it to the best light with minimal breeze. In PPing I darkened the background and used some Nik filters to soften the image. The original is tack sharp, but I wanted my final image to be moody and dreamy. For me, I think I achieved what I intended do accomplish.

Now, show me yours.

Love all the BEAUTIFUL flowers everyone has submitted. Was hard to pick, but only take pictures as hobby and to please my family and I.

Hibiscus from back yard. Saw the completed picture before I took it. Sun and background just right. Darkened the background and clened up flower a bit.

The rose is from the Balboa Park rose garden, which is fabulous when they are all in bloom - a new batch should be blooming in a few months.
I raise orchids and grow many lavender plants.
The orchid (a Cattleya) looses its "depth" when uploaded to this site. It looks much more dynamic on my PC (oh well). :-(

I don't think this is a great picture but I was pleased that it worked at all. I set out to find out if I could give this morning glory a black background in bright sunlight. It took a few tries. I closed down until it was so dark I could barely see the outline of the flower and used the on-camera flash. The flower was blown out, so I kept backing up until the flash didn't leave me with a pale blue and white flower and probably should have back up a bit more so the raindrop would show better. Then one day, when looking through old pictures, the words "blown out" came to mind again, so I did!

"Messed with Magnolia" I have been playing with this process for several days. Good way to use up some of the "not quiet there" photos.
