I was wrong then. It also looks like a Peregrine falcon a little. I was told at the Canadian Raptor Conservancy that this shot of mine was an Aplomado. It's completely different looking though.

Thank you for your interest Fotoartist. This bird was larger than a kestrel, but not real large. This site gives a little more info on the Aplomado falcon: https://defendersblog.org/2013/04/road-to-recovery-northern-aplomado-falcon/ . We do have a kestrel at the center, but wasn't available for photos the day I happen to be there. Bev

I like your image, can easily see how the Peregrine and Aplomado Falcons look similar in flight. So glad for our conversation today. Checked with our curator and he said Aplomado Falcons are bred in captivity for use in the sport of falconry. Our current Aplomado was bred in captivity for use in abatement to chase starlings off blueberry ordhards, the owner retired him. Being born/raised in captivity, he couldn't go into the wild. Our ratpor center took him as we could provide a good home and use him to help educate people about raptor conservation.
