Terrific shots. I have seen other shots or Ship Rock, but never from this perspective.

The Navajo word for rock is tse. Bit'a'í is a little trickier, but loosely, it means 'wings.' The (Anglo) word Shiprock was adopted in the 1870's, simply because it looks like a schooner ship of the time (not that there were a lot of schooners in NW New Mexico...). Tse Bit'a'í --the exposed throat of a long since eroded ancient volcano) is on Navajo tribal land, and it has deep cultural and religious significance to the Dine (there's supposed to be an accent over the e, but, hey. Or Ya Ta Hey, as locals might say.) Glad you like the shots.
Great images of an iconic landmark from this area... I live about 40 miles fro Shiprock, and have shot hundreds of photos of it with my old Kodak point and shoot.
