HI. I'm not sure one way or another. I sent an Canon xti in and talked to a person after they received it. It was in perfect condition with hardly a scratch on it body only with all the original box software and manual and other info things. When I first talked to them they said that it retailed for $140 and I would get 70% of the price witch would be $98 and I had a off brand battery grip and would et $20 for it for a total of $118. It took a coulpe of weeks till I received a quote. They change their price and only offered me $70 for the whole thing. I asked why the difference and they told me that it was old and the market wasen't moving that fast. Digital camers are hot right now as almost everybody is buying them and look for a good deal. I think $70 is a far cry from $118. I do buy from adorama and b&h offen but I think I was taken advantage of hereso I'm not sure if I would do it again.

I sold a Nikon lens to Adorama last month. Took it to their New York store; they gave me a very fair price (about 70-75% of used retail) and gave me a check immediately.

If you send a camera to be sold to any used camera buyer you should ship it via a method where you can track the shipping process and make sure it was not only received and more importantly, who might have signed for your camera.
Helen Oster has responded and addressed some of your questions.
Adorama is not a sham company, I have bought cameras and sold cameras to the from them. I can say that the appraisal of a camera shipped back to them for evaluation and to fix a price usually, based on my experience is accomplished in 10 days or a couple of weeks.
You have to understand also that the value of your camera has to be based on the usual market conditions, availability of the camera in the market place, the condition of your camera. You have options from Adorama that you might not have with other camera sellers, you can elect to use the value of your camera as credit toward another purchase, and of course to receive the proceeds after they evaluate your camera and arrive at a value.

Has anyone sold any equipment to Adorama? They are telling me they pay .70 on the dollar for current market value. Usually if it sounds too good to be true, it is. I just don't want to mail off my equipment only to see it disappear. Thanks.

Both my husband and I have sold equip. to Adorama, I don't remember getting the price you mentioned. However, we did unload a lot of photo equip that was years old, film type camera and not high end. We opted for a store credit which was a little higher return and used it to purchase high tech cameras. My feeling was that I had a collection that would be making some dumo site larger or sell it to them. I live in an area with no camera stores and little to no market for used old cameras. If you have recent equipment, less then 3 - 5 years old you might get the price but mine was 25 - 30 years old and I was happy to give it a new home.
Just my experience.

I recently "traded up" to a Canon 50mm "L" lens through Adorama and was very satisfied. What you have to consider is that they will have to spend some time and effort to sell your used item and they could be hanging out for any hidden defects in used equipment they sell.
My mistake was not to listen to often repeated advice of "buy the best that you can afford". Than I wouldn't have had to face a "trade up" issue.

I have dealt with Adorama for many years, including selling and trading in gear at various times, and have always been happy with the results. They do claim the 70% of market value, which is entirely reasonable; somebody has to pay their light and phone bill! From my experience, they seem to stick to this figure pretty closely. And of course this assumes that the trade-in is in sellable condition. The cost of any repairs would logically have to come off of the 70%. In a case like this, they will advise you of the repair situation and give you the option of having you gear returned to you. Can't bet any fairer than that.

While I haven't sold to Adorama, I have sold to KEH.
You can get a quick quote off their website.
http://www.keh.com/ Also, one of their buyer's is Floyd Seals. floyd@keh.com

To expand on this a little. You complete their form online and they tell you what they will give you,IF it as you say, without you having to send it in before hand.

Just an update on my items I sent Adorama. They called this morning and we made the deal. I did not get what I thought I would, but think it was fair. I could have made more by piecing it out, but to sell 5 high end items all at once is worth it.

I have been through the same thing with guns. Your sure you can get more selling one at a time than selling a batch but by the time you get a little more for this one, a little less for that one in the end you come out very close to the same and you took a lot more of your time, energy and focus.

update from Russell for adorama. I received a call from adorama about the canon xti I sent in. All things were make right and I'm getting the full quote price I was given. I often buy from adorama and this restored my faith in them.
