I have gotten some great deals from surfing the classified section on Fred Miranda's website. Never had a problem, either.
Yes, I've also used FredMiranda lots of times for used lenses and lighting gear. Highly recommended. And Ugly Hedgehog too :-)
Used to use e-bay, seems overpriced now.
Also consider refurbished lenses from Buydig, Cameta camera, Adorama, BandH
Thanks all for the sage advice.

Any thoughts on the best source for used Nikon lenses? What about Nikon USA as a source for refurbished lenses?
I get MINT with box off ebay. Always got great prices and excellent quality.

I'm always suspicious of boxes included with lenses bought off of eBay. Look at all of the empty boxes for sale. If you do buy that way, make sure the box has the same serial number as the product.

Never had an issue buying this way. Have bought over 12 Nikon lenses this way and every purchase was great. Most all vendors will show serial number match on box and lens so the issue is non-existent.
Adorama, B&H, Cameta, KEH and Nikon USA are the most trusted from what I have found.

Add Robert's Camera (usedphotopro.com) to that list....
Don’t forget Roberts Camera. Just received a Nikon lens that was rated excellent. It is pristine.
Ebay. Check the description carefully and check the reviews. You can also ask the seller questions, which will be part of the ebay record of the sale if you only communicate through ebay. If I see any negative reviews for the seller that are not trivial (eg. $20 pearls didn't look like real pearls), or if the seller doesn't generally sell the type of item I am looking at (eg. cameras and lenses), I move on to another seller. If the item is different from what is posted on the description, Paypal will refund your money including postage. I have bought all my electronics on ebay the last few years. Sent a couple of items back because they weren't as described and got full refunds.
