Apparently your degree did not teach you the value of providing a direct answer to a direct question. If I ask what time it is I don't desire a response on how to build a watch. You answer your (paternalistic) way and I'll stick to my direct response.

When people ask a question, it comes form lack of knowledge. The lack of knowledge is reflected in how the question is formulated and asked. People with knowledge in the subject area recognize that and may need to ask for additional detail or clarification to make sure the answers they give provided what is needed rather than just fill in the blanks what is asked.

If there is any field in which you are competent and have been asked question, then you already know this. So stop being such a putz.

Since you mentioned you liked doing landscapes and old barns and wanted to do macro . . . I'd recommend a full frame camera like the D750 or D810 . . . Both can be bought used at bargain prices . . . If money were no object, I'd go with the D850. On the other hand, if your current lenses are all DX, then I'd probably go for the D7200 or D500 . . .

It's interesting that the OP did not ask for recommendations for only Nikon cameras but those are the recommendations that he got along with why he should not feel limited by his equipment. Who are we to decide if he should feel limited or not. Jeez! And I think it's interesting that responders just totally disregard the Nikon D7500 when they have not even used it. Choosing a camera only by the brand or lenses that you already have is shortsighted. There are lots of excellent products out there that might be more appropriate than the brand he is using.

....or maybe some of us are just answering based on our experience, and what we are familiar with. I rented a 7500, and as soon as I realized that it didn't have a second card slot, I made my decision that it wouldn't work for me. My butt was saved by that second slot at a wedding. Losing an entire card full of images, when you are at a once in a lifetime event, can get you sued.

Since he has 5 Nikon compatible lenses and a limited budget, recommending a Nikon body seems to make sense. As for the D7500, it would not be fair to recommend something you never used. The OP can read all the reviews he can find, but instead he asked for our advice.

What advice do you have for him? Go Fuji doesn't really tell him much other than a brand.

Doesn't sound like he is ready for weddings yet or even heading that way. Closing the door on a camera that doesn't have 2 card slots might make sense for some but it doesn't apply to all.

Again, OP asked for opinions, that was mine, from my experience, and I even explained in the first post that it saved my bacon.
Why be upset if someone has a different opinion than yours. If you want to suggest a 7500, I certainly don't mind. I also didn't get upset with people bringing up FF, or in your case, a different brand. That's what opinions are...individual feelings about a certain topic, and we are all allowed to have them.

Yeah Bill you are right about the Fuji comment- wasn't very helpful although the X-T2 has 2 card slots :)

I would suggest that he research brands other than Nikon- if nothing else just to see what is out there. He does not seem to have professional aspirations at this time so he isn't limited to a certain set of criteria. There are a lot of choices out there- it's a pity to choose only by what you know and have. Equipment can be bought and sold- just ask me.

If he wanted to stay with Nikon because he has an investment in lenses then I would suggest that he at least look at the Nikon D 7500 as a possibility. But as soon as that was typed and posted there would be the usual clamor about only one card slot overriding anything positive I could say - even though it has been rated highly. I have one (of course) and I really like everything about it- IQ, focus, ISO, weather resistance, easy to set up and use, not too big, not too expensive and the availability of lenses for my needs.

If I was looking for another DX body I would at least consider a D7500. The single card slot wouldn't be a concern. I just couldn't recommend it to someone myself as I have never laid eyes on one.

OK, obviously we're all allowed to have opinions, as long as those opinions agree with yours......got it.
Hope your day gets better, since everyone didn't suggest the one you wanted.

Not true. It's what has gone before you that makes me a little crazy. I would like to hear someone evaluate the camera on it's own merits- someone that has actually used it before dismissing it out of hand. You need a camera with 2 cards- I get that. But not everyone does. I'm sorry if I have offended you. I usually go out of my way to avoid that. It must be because I am painting baseboards between posting and I hate doing that. Have a good day.

Here, here. I've often thought that about many replies. They don't answer the question but ask more. Even when a problem has occurred they answer with, " I've never had a problem with that". Doesn't really help the person with the problem.
